Door hinge limiters

Got around to fitting my rubber door hinge limiters as advertised in this months mag and being sold at National. So simple to fit and such a good idea. I have just had a guy round Saturday to remove a dent from my door after another door was opened onto mine and he did a perfect job.

I brought a pair at national and fitted them a couple of weeks ago

took me by surprise first time as I had got use to the door opening so wide

but now I'm a little more confident of not banging that classic parked next to me at shows

Really old post that I've come across, but does anyone know the history of these (who produced them etc,) and if there is still supplies somewhere?

I have an old hinge. it seems the two halves of metal welded together on the hinge to prevent the door from opening too much bends with time. The weld breaks too.

Tried to find this profile seal but had no success.
Made my own with one 3 inch piece of 1/4 petrol pipe and one piece of 5/16 stuck together with sikaflex or similar. Rough up with emery and wipe with thinners and they stick together. I also put a small amount on the flat side of the hinge to stop them dropping out

Thanks for that Dave. Looks like some experimentation with rubber/foam pipe insulators or some such application.

the 2 pieces of pipe are virtually the same as what was sold, as some friends have the original ones I looked at . Also with the pipes being hollow they have a bit more give if you push on the door,
where as the originals are solid

My car hasn't had them fitted since I owned bought it in 1994, I was not aware of them at all until Goldstar bought a poo brown stag a few years back and I nearly killed myself getting in and out of the thing.

Are they to stop fat or less agile peoples from stealing your car?

IIRC weren’t these on sale at the National Day held by W Sussex near Goodwood a number of years back. Not seen them since and cannot remember the supplier tho?

They were. They were also advertised in the SOC magazine at the time. I have had them fitted for many years and am very happy with them.

Precisely that. Prevents opening the long door against other vehicles, walls etc. Especially handy when the doors are being opened by younger passengers who are maybe not as careful, or aware as us.
