I like the bit where the seller states there are a lot of Mk2 parts fitted....well that's because it is a Mk2.....:X:X:X:X:X

At what point do the MK 1 1/2's kick in? it was around '72 wasn't it?

(Only MKI bit I could see was the glove box lid!).

I would put my money on that it`s a 77 model we have a couple in our local group identical.

Could we be as it looks like Tahiti to me so 1975 - 1977 model years although the black rear panel is not original to those years.

Has anyone sentthe seller a message? May be this forum should have its own policing on such matters. Ebay could be told and they would contact the seller and if there is anything wrong, the advert will be withdrawn.

i am sick off this, there are many a mk1 with mk2 parts ie t bars i change mine the only one avalable at the time was mk2 also mine has a mk2 bootlid when it was restored in 1986 the only type again was a mk2 there are lots of resons why mk1s have mk2 parts and visa versa dont you think its about time this subject should be droped, what do you think???

I can’t comment on the car advertised for sale on EBay but recently I went to see a similar car that was for sale. It was a 1972 MOD which had been registered as tax exempt. I soon realised it was a ringer, wrong dash, wrong T bar interior light position, steering wheel with inserts etc. After checking the date codes on all of the windows I determined the car I was looking at was 1976 and not a tax exempt 1972.

When I checked the VIN number it ended in BW and therefore the car which provided the number plates was an automatic and the car I was looking at was a manual.

I concluded there was one of three reasons why the car had false plates:

1) The obvious reason is a previous owner swapped the identity with a tax exempt car in order to avoid paying road tax. There will be mixed reactions to that and probably best saved for another post.
2) A rusty MK 1 was rebuilt using a MK 2. In the case of the car I was looking at that would have only meant the engine was changed therefore the identity should have remained with the MK 2 car.
3) The 1976 car was stolen and the identity was changed.

Not knowing the cars history and the thought that I could be driving someone’s (SOC member?) pride and joy which was stolen from them made me walk away from the car. I told the owner exactly what I have said in this post and left him to investigate further.
