    Recaros

Hi,My bro-in-law is giving memint re-upholsteredCapri half leather/suede piped red recaro seats. They are black/ dark grey.

I want some advise, will they look good in a Stag? can the back seats be made to fit?. The foam in my front seatsis crumbling away and the cost and hassle is too much to have them redone.

    Cheers,

    Sukh.

hi sukh, the leather is easy to change colour if you want them black not grey and even easier as there almost black already.it should not be to hard to engineer a solution to fit the seats as long as you trial the seat and adjustment before you make permanent.i would imagine the rear original seats could be used with another cover trim to get the desired effect.

When I fitted Recaro's into mine I managed to get some genuine matching fabric/'leather' and had my original rear seat re-trimmed to match.

He did a very good job, flat stiching instead of piping, and added the row of flutes, allto match the front seats

I must say it looks almost factory fitted. Were the seats difficult to fit? Appreciate a few tips and know how, may be fitting them next weekend.

        Cheers,

        Sukh.

This may help, my fitting photos.

They are not from a Capri, but Recaro seats generally have the same mounting holes, the runners that are then fitted may be different.

To be honest its not something you can just fit at the weekend without fabricating the necessary brackets first.

I measured the original seat mountings, the new Recaro seat mountings, then produced the necessary CAD drawing of what was needed and had them fabricated...it was then a simple job of bolting them in at the weekend

They are very good, but having sat in a Stag fitted with Recaro seats (that where from a Capri actually) a few years ago 'it had to be done' shall we say so I did the same!

                Hello,

I was trying to print out your fitting photos, but this only works, if you become a member.

Can you please mail these photos to "dhimarshall(at)gmx.de" or publish them here?

                Kind regards, Dieter.

                    Hello,

Perhaps it helps, if you downsizethe pics?!

Did you, too, find that the front of the Recaros is a bit too high (or the rear a bit too low?) to sit comfortably in them? Did you built in the runners vertically or did you use spacers at the rear of the runners?

Inyour pics I could see that you made your console in a sort of "stepped pattern". Did you want to gain more height?

The measures I found for the runners were (in millimeters):

                    - original seats: 357.5 (back to front) and 405.0 (width)

                    - Recaros: 325.0 (back to front) and 372.0 (width).

Does that correspond with your measures?

                    Kind regards, Dieter.

I will do thisbut you will loose some resolution

The runners bolt straight to the seat and straight to the adapter brackets with no spacers to tilt the seat. This seems fine and is comfortable for me. Certainly the front of the seat is not too tall.
Inyour pics I could see that you made your console in a sort of "stepped pattern". Did you want to gain more height?
No, quite the opposite being 190cm tall. The original stag seats have runners that are off-set from centre, Recaro seats are on-centre, so it is necessary for the adapter brackets to be made this wayto keepthe Recaro seat in the same relative position from the centre line of the car. In fact the recaro seats ended up beingslightly lower than the original seats.
The measures I found for the runners were (in millimeters):

                      - original seats: 357.5 (back to front) and 405.0 (width)

I don't have my measurements to hand but remember that Recaro seats generally all have the same mounting hole positions in the base of the seat, but the runners that are fitted to the seat could be a different style to what I have. The original Recaro seats that I fitted where late 70's/80's vintage, the current pair fitted where made in 2003 and where a straight swop onto the runners made 30 years earlier!
                      Kind regards, Dieter.
                      Hope this helps, Cheers Mike

Hi, Fitted the Recaros today, took me two hours to remove the original seats and fit the recaros. I used theStags original runners. Bought eightangled brackets and a bag of nuts/washers/boltsfrom Wickesfor £15.00and fitted these to the recaros and runners. No cutting/welding invovled.

Fitted like a dream, strong and sturdy. Will send pics as soon as I get them....well chuffed.

                          Hello,

I am about to install some Recaros as well at the moment. So I am wondering how you could use the orginal Stag runners, as the base of the Recaros differs in width and length.

                          Kind regards, Dieter.

Hi Dieter, I removed the four bolts that hold the runners to the Stag seat then connected four angled brackets to the recaro mounting points underneath using the already existing Alan keyed bolts. I simply then bolted the runner to the angled brackets,....the angled brackets had multiply holes/slots and I was lucky they fitted like a dream.

The best way is to take the runners off, have them in front of you and the recaros then sit down and have a long hard look, it just clicked with me, I am sure you will find the same solution. My neice took the pics on hercell phone and am waiting for her to send them.

                            Sukh.
p.s........used the original Stag runners four mounting points to fit to the angled brackets.

On the subject of seats, I notice from Mike's picture link that he has a full width rubber membrane under the seat whereas mine have 6 rubber straps (3 running each way)

Can anyone tell me which is original or which is better - or even if I should have both?

                              Cheers
