    door cards

Hi All,I am in the process of refurbishing my o/s door card (new backing board)I need the rivets thathold the door card together. Anyone know where I can source some.

I have tried the obvious places,...Wickes, B&Q, homebase.

I found a couple of old payslips in the pouch, very small ones 16"x3/4".The first one wasdated 15/07/1976. The amount was for £46.02, 441/4 hours worked @ £1.04 an hour,....tax £6.30, NI £2.95. Was this a good wage to own/run a Stag?,.....interesting.

    What a cool find Sukh!

so that's £46 a week or a month? Also what year is your stag? ( so was it new to the owner or used?)

All you need now, is to track down the previous owners and see if you can re-unite it with its owner!

A weeks wages?( not sure). My Stags registered Aug 1973. Most probably the first owner. I kind of remember this kind of payslip, I used to work at Heathrow Airport at weekends whilst at shool (1976, Sixteen year old then) the Pay slips look the same. I also found with the slips a Heathrow car park parking permit:shock:. May have unwittingly met this chap a Mr P Evans.

Well based on what my Dad paid for his stag in 1975, which was I am pretty sure was around £1200, I would guess yours would have been worth roughly the same in 1976 (my Dads was a 72 i think).

Based on that if it was £46 a week (and it was the second owner) then it was probably well in reach, but if it was a month, then a parent bought and ran it for the owner or it was owned by someone "living with parents", would by be my best guess. It could be it was the first owner if it was £46 a week as that's roughly a years salary to buy a mid range car which is not out of the way.

My Dad owned a business at that time that was on the up, so it would have been only above average earners that could have afforded a three year old stag at that time I would think.

            Hi Sukh,

The rivets that you need are called bifurcated rivets. I went to a couple of local upholstery shops to no avail. You may have better luck.In the end I used short 1/8 pop rivets. They worked well. I think I installed them with the head of the rivet on the side where the trim will stick down.

            regards,

            Raoul

Hi Sukh and thanks Raoul (btw - how did your headlining go Raoul?)

I vaguely remember hearing about bifurcated rivets but haven't got a clue what they are or how to use them.

However, as I'm going to be doing the same job soon, I looked at this subject with interest. Found the following, which I've ordered:

                Hi Sukh

Hope it was for a weeks work. The reason I say that was in 1979 when I left school I went on one of those YTS schemes as a trainee greenkeeper at the local golf course, they payed, wait for it,£20.55 new pence a week,it was deemed slave labour at the time,a adults wage in a normal job at the time must have payed 3x my money at least. The only upside was the lawnmowers ran on 25 to 1 petrol and so did my Fantic sports moped, the only time I went to a garage in the 2 months I worked there was to make sure I had enough air in my tyres.

It would be for a week because it says 44 1/4 hours thats about the working week in 1976 .

I had just started a new job in June 1976 as a sales rep fer a motor factors ,the wages was £25.00 per week plus a mk 2 Escort plus commission . The commission was paid monthly and it was usually in the region of £130 per month.

Sad old git that I am, I've kept just about every pay slip I've ever had

I can't remember which job I was doing back in July 76 but it was either service receptionist or assistant parts manager at a Jaguar Rover Triumph dealer and I see that I earned a monthly gross of £241.38 (Equivalent to £55.70 a week) and took home £161.86.

The pay slip is so old and faded it just won't scan properly but my March 76 hasn't faded and I've enclosed a scan. I must have been promoted between those two dates as, back in March 76 my monthly gross was just£166.66 (£38.46/wk) and I took home £118.03.

Definitely not able to afford a Stag then- fun days though

I certainly earned every penny when I had to deal with a lot of irate Stag owners though:shock:

                        Cheers
