    cam cover text orientation

    Hi all

My first post and probably a silly question, but I have recently noticed that every picture or stag that i see the word Triumph on the cam covers can be read the right way around when you stand at the wing and look into the engine bay. On my car the text is upside down when viewed from each wing and only the right wayround ifyou were in the centre of the engine bay looking outwards toward the wings. Before anyone asks, the covers are fitted correctly with the oil filler cap in the correct place on theoffside head.

Iam thinking of repainting the covers and have suddenly realised they seem different to all the others i look at.

    Hi Wolfie

I seem to remember there was a batch of cam cover stamped incorrectly and some made it on to the a few cars?:?

Hi Wolfie and welcome to the forum,

Mine are like that too. I kinda like the fact that they are a bit different. They were the right way round, but Fav. Classics put a powder coated set on when they rebuilt my engine which happened to be like that.

Some early cars had one Dolomite cover fitted and some are still in circulation, not a problem to swap the wrongun.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys.

I had not actually noticed it at all untilthis week. I have been completing a few jobsin readiness for taking part inthe 2010 RBRR. The mechanic at my local garage mentioned they were upside down when I went to collect the car last saturday.

My first reaction was he was wrong and they must all be like that, then i found all reference books i have and all images i could find on the web were the opposite to mine.

i was thinking of buying a spare set to refurb and swap for mine but think i will stick with the onesi have for the novelty factor.

            cheers

              Hi Martin

I doubt they are off a Dolly, they are a pair and both upside down.

              cheers

Welcome, Wolfie. Any connection with 'Citizen Smith' and the Tooting Popular Front?

The four cylinder covers are completely different and not interchangeable with the Stag. Look at the depth of the section over the chain. The four pot one are much narrower. The gasket won't fit either

Strange you should post this, I cleaned my engine ("Gunked" it for the old uns) on Sunday and it is the first time I've noticed my O/s cover is the wrong way around, and yet this also has the oil filler in it.

Never notice it before so I may be looking for a spare cover - if I ever get round to it? It doesn't affect anything - so why bother - but then its not unique if there are several the same?

                      Dont use Gunk

Swarfega jizer is ten times better for degreasing and cleaning

just look at it as little bit of quirkiness born out of BL cost cutting, it was easier to put all the covers through one stamping machine than get one of the Coventry blacksmiths to worry which was a side, thus saving costs.

i would actually like a pair!

I use white spirit. It works miles better than any of the 'degreasers' I have tried.

All three have their place, but the best I've come across is AutoGlym Machine Clean, it's in a spray so goes a long way and it's water soluble. Martin.

How about Vim, water and good old elbow grease.
