Having to use the Stag everyday and loving it!

Having damaged my left ankle can't use my everyday car, a Mazda rx8, as I can't push the clutch pedal down very well. So having to use the stag as it's an auto.

Normally only use it at weekends, but have to say over the past two weeks of constant use it has been faultless. Using no oil or water and temp gauge stays just before the middle even sitting in traffic. Only down side is a leaking soft top, will get vmad to sort that in the spring.

I am just enjoying driving it.

Do many other members use their car daily?

    Ohhhh yes!
And my windscreen to soft top seal leaks as well!!
Arriving at work with damp trousers lacks a certain sartorial style though

"Using no oil" - Guess you can't say that for the RX8 can you ?

      Great car though

I wish I could, but my current work commute adds up to 400 miles a week so I don't think the Stag would stand up to that sort of treatment for long! Not to mention the fuel bill!

Yes, that's a very fair point to say about oil for the RX8, although it's not using any sitting on the drive! So that's a bonus.

Sorry about your ankle, but as a consolation it must be nice to have re-discovered 'torque' as well . And not having to wring the neck out of the engine to make progress. And the nice sound out of the back, rather than a turbine-like whine......

Sell the RX8 and stick to the Stag - more smiles per mile

It's a fair shout about the torque, the rx8 doesn't have a great deal, whereas the Stag just pulls whatever speed you are going. Plus the sound is fantasic, still has an old radio that doesnt even have FM on it and was thinking of changing it for a cd player but I don't think I would ever use it as it I want to hear the burble.

The RX8 is fun though, redline at 9000rpm, but would agree the v8 does sound better.

Plus the Stag can be turned off when cold if you move it out of the garage whereas the rx8 has to warm up first or it will flood. And they say cars have progressed. Pull the choke, turn the key, and off she goes, brilliant!

I use mine everyday to commute from Ashford (middlesex) to chiswick in west london,11 miles each way in a mixture of road and traffic conditions and i love it,the stag even makes traffic jams enjoyable, 22 to 24 mpg not too shabby i reckon

use mine everyday as well only had her 5 weeks and done 1100 miles with no issues other than a blown fuse for windows twice and fan doesn;t kick in so I have to do it with dash override switch

In an ideal world I have to say I;d have another car as well and keep stag garaged for nicer days. I don;t actually find it that exciting to drive. not fully decided on it yet, I love the noise and with top down but with top up it doesn;t quite light my fire sometimes!!

Just keep driving the Stag.......you'll soon get the grin factor and want to drive it all the time.

I love driving mine...the more you drive her the more confidence you'll have with her.......

And it gives other people the smile factor......

I don;t think its that as I;ve always had faster (but younger) cars, the one exception being an old banger EunosRoadster I had which wwas great fun to drive

I think its the handling I;m missing. I'm blowing hot and cold I shall see how it goes

Well, I've never driven my Stag on the road. Only on the driveway once or twice when I was sixteen! I turn 38 next week! :?

I have never really thought of my Stag, which is a project, as a daily car but actually, when I do consider it, the idea has a lot of appeal! I really think that a Stag can cut it as a daily driver, so long as you stay on top of maintenance and problems. It is a reliable car (or can be), not that thirsty (I drive a Vectra GSi 3.2 at present and even that can net 30mpg commuting from London to Hertfordshire ), exceptionally comfortable, lovely to look at and listen to...

Hmm. I think I really need to get to grips with my project, get it running and try it as a daily driver! The other thing is that regular use really seems to benefit cars. If left unused, brakes seize and things generally seem to 'go off' much more rapidly.

                              Food for thought, eh?
