What's this Thing?
I've just bought a front loom secondhand as the original was trash with a melted ballast wire into the bargain. Apart from some production differences that I can understand, this aftermarket cylindrical thing has been bolted in to one of the heavy alternator wires.
It's a well made potted component, 3.5 inches long by 1 inch in diameter with what I presume is an earth wire. There is an eye connector at the alternator end and a threaded post at the far end. It has been joined in to the loomat the point where that plastic covered connector block normallylives, by the O/S engine mount andadjacent to the Washer Bottle feed.
The question is - What is this thing? Naturally, there's no label or identifying marks and I've never come across anything like it insuch a locationbefore. If anyone knows what it is, could you tell me what it is supposed to do andif it's worth keeping or not?
I'll be fitting an uprated alternator when the rebuild comes together, locating the alternator via EJ Wards bracket to the front N/S cylinder head, so there's going to be some chopping and reshaping going on anyway. I'd just like to know what I might be facing before I start getting it all together.
Any help appreciated.
