    Goodwood revival

I went along today (Friday) and was really surprised at how busy it was. It seems that each year it is more popular than the year before.

Lets start with a pictures of a couple of cars we will all like - members of the SOC?....

So having seen Stags and TR6's in the car park imagine my surprise to find Spitfires inside the event....

    Needed a beer after that

Superb. Having 'done' the Festival of Speed this year, I am determined to do the Revival sometime soon. Hopefully next year.

My Dad did his flight mechanics bit in the RAF in '46-50 but on Mosquitos. same engines as a Spitfire, they had to be able to dismantle and inspect then reassemble in 12 hrs..well there was 2 of them.

Re your picture 10 - A Citroen SM.

I've always felt there were a surprising number of parallels between the Stag and the SM:

        · both were excursions into new marketsectors bymainstream manufacturers

        · both launched and on sale at around the same time

        · both based on the underpinnings of the company’s large family car

        · both featured a dramatically different engine from their siblings

        · both featured dramatically different bodywork from theirsiblings

        · both experienced major engine problems in their time

        · both were commercial disasters

        · both contributed to the collapse of their manufacturer !!

        Cheers

        Julian

Looks like you had a great day Ian - did anyone take you up on your free ticket? I saw your post too late otherwise I'd have been up for it!

          Lovin' those old Astons :P:P:P

          Cheers,

          Bob.

And my Dad left me his workshop manual for theMerlin engine. (No, not a Haynes one )

Haven't found much use for it yet though, but I do look throughitfrom time to time- Cor, can you imagine a Stag V12

            Cheers

Well, if you can do it to a Rover....Just needs a slight mod to the bulkhead and a bigger fuel tank.

It was an enjoyable day (as usual) and I have always preferred it to the Festival of Speed as you get to see the cars / bikes in proper action - with no regard to their value!

No Bob, no one was able to take me up on the offer. I only got the freebies Thursday night and didn't think about putting it up here until just before going to bed. In some odd way I actually prefer looking around the public carparks to see the everyday classics there, and am mainly a fan of Triumphs and Astons.

I can see your thinking on the Citreon Julian.....and remeber wanting one when I was younger. The Stag always looked better though and seems to have stood the test of time.

Small world, my farther worked on the Spitfires and my grand farther help to build Mosquito as he was a cabinet maker. Lol

After the war my farther got a job with B.O.A.C and my grand farther got a job with Rolls Royce.

So you never know your father might of worked on a Mosquito my grandfather built

Shame neither of them are with us now, or they could of fixed my engine, and my dash.
