    Door water curtains

I've nearly finished replacing my door cards (bifurcated rivets and all) but I'm left with one query. I appreciate that the door water curtain is a vital component in helping to keep moisture off my nice new cards, but I'm not sure how they should be fitted.

On one side it was stapled to the back of the door card whilst on the other side it was glued to the door - effectively sealing all the holes in the door - and not fixed to the card at all.

Does anyone know a) which way they should be fixed and/or b) which is more effective?

All help gratefully received as I don't want to have to replace them again in a few years

    Cheers

    Julian,

Fit them to the door and seal it all off. Any heavy-duty plastic will do the job along with 'gaffer-tape'. Stustag posted some pictures here some time ago.

      Thanks Dave,

After reading your suggestion I found Stustag's earlier post which was helpful. I had already searched but it was under 'water' rather than 'rain' curtain.

It would seem that sealing the door makes most sense but it does look like the sheet was stapled to the door card from new - do you know if this was the case?

Maybe it was just easier to produce that way and b******s to how effective it was for the owner :?

      Cheers

        Julian,

I believe that it may have been stapled to the door card originally, but as this is not 'on show' I take the view that the most effective method is best, and as almost every car on the market over the past few decades has had the door sealed, then this must be the best way.

Hi Julian, just like Citroen seal the door but you could put a thin film of plastic on card as double protection. Martin.

              Hi Martin,

Good to hear from you. I'd wonderedabout that, although Ithought I might end up with a small amount of water getting trapped betweeen the two, causing musty smells.

              I don't know, decisions, decisions...:?

I wish I'd painted the board with some good waterproof paint but it's too late for that now.

              Cheers

hi guys , i am about to refurbish my door cards ,and i am ging to use tyvec roofing material ,it lets the door card breathe but is a good water repellant ,i will also glue it to the door as well ,the material is similar to the grey car covers you can buy ,it doesnt sweat like plastic .

                  Good luck Andy,

That sounds like a good idea.

I've almost finished mine and I've quite enjoyed the experience (first time I've ever done it). I even fitted new pockets to cover up the speaker holes as well as my own door bottom carpet to match the car.

Pretty proud of the result - if you need any thoughts or helpfrom someone who's just done it then feel free to contact me.

                  Cheers
