    Silicone brake fluid

Does anyone use it in a Stag?

I have had it in my 2.5PI for the last four years and I am very tempted to try it in the Stag.I spoke to themanufacturer of it and they assure me that it is suitable for the Stag and I could just do a straight change. There seems to be some doubt about it though reading previous threads...

What are your views on it guys? The fact that it does not damage paintwork appeals greatly!

    Hi Brian

I am no expert on brake fluid but if the manufacture says it will be fine and you have had it in the PI for a while will no problem then it should be fine.

Hi Brian, not being hygroscopic, and not damaging paint are hugely appealing, but I've had some experience of putting it in other peoples cars and I don't like it, it seems to be slightly compressable, the brake pedal had an unpleasant springy feel which no amount of bleeding would change. Just my tuppence worth. Martin.

I've used silicone fluid in the Stag for the last 7 years & had no problems whatsoever. One thing that is important is you must not mix it with .1's & the whole system should be flushed out with methylated spirits to prevent contamination.

I've had it in the stag for over 15 years, but at the time the complete braking system was renewed 100% so no mixing problems with old fluid.

I also have PTFE braided flexibles and don't have a spongy pedal.

          Can recommend it

            Hi guys,

thanks for the replies to this - there seems to be pros and cons!! I have braided brake hoses so hopefully a spongy pedal would not be evident, I have just had a huge nightmare chasing that one:shock:!!

The car still has all of its original steel brake pipes, and some will need changing very soon. I think I will give the silicone fluid a go as the Stag does not appear to be allergic to it! Every time I do anything with the brakes I am paranoid about the paintwork

I've had it in my Stag for 10years now, no problems. There is a slight difference in the pedal feel to start with, but you soon adapt to it.

When we're back from our hols, mine's going to Wards for new Kunifer pipes, it's a horrible job and I've had enough of horrible jobs, but I'm sticking with Dot 4 Martin.
