Do you never sleep ?? Answering my TR6 questions at 1 am and then asking who's going to Tilford at 4.30

If you suffer from insomnia then you should read a few of my posts - they'll send you to sleep

Btw - showing my ignorance, where / what is Tilford ? :?

 Cheers

V Mad wrote:Hi ChrisJulian, Tilford is a small village near Farnham. There is a rural life centre museum there, and today a classic car show. Why not have a run out, its a nice morning?

I am going in my Tiger as my stag is stripped ready for painting soon.

Thanks for the reply. 'fraid I won't be able to make it today - door cards to finish and waxoyling to start (actually I'm using Bilt Hamber but Bilt Hambering just doesn't roll off the tongue so easily ) )

However next Sunday apparently there's a carshow at Shalbourne? near Hungerford (Marlbstag and Chrism told me) and I may just get over there. Willyour Stagbe painted by then? Are you sticking to BRG?

 Cheers

 Julian

Well I spent quite a few enjoyable hours there this afternoon and met and chatted to the owners of one Stag, a TR2 (wife has Stag) and a very nice fixed-head XK120. I will put some pic's up tomorrow.

Came back and had a fiddle about with the Stag. Total failure at getting the hood down. It's been up I would think for the last 10 years and pulling on the release level behind passenger seat seemed to release something, but the hood wouldn't lift. Had a bit of a sulk about that and then started the process of cutting back the paint work which came on really well.

If you heard a metallic"ping" when you pulled the lever then hopefully the releasecable works OK and has released the rear centre lock. Does the rear of the hood lift away from the car at all?The centre studmay be caught if not - often happens - a bit of energeticjiggling may be required to free it. As you say if it hasn't been down for a few years then the framework may be a bit stiff and starchy. I'd start by lubricating all the joints on the framework from inside the car if you haven't already. If you still have no luck I'll have a look at it with you at the weekend, and I can show you on my car how it should operate.

 Cheers,

 Bob.

 Hello Bob

The car's not up and running yet. Danny has been away for the last two weeks and is, I am told, back in the garage tomorrow. I would imagine it will take a week before they can book it in, but I am going to be calling him tomorrow to try to get it in ASAP. (I have seen his Quattro by the way - very impressibe).

As said before I can't see the Stag being the chariot I will be in when I see you next weekend.....but one day soon!

I didn't have a look at lubricating the hood hinges - won't a lot of them be behind the headlining though?

 regards

 Ian

The hinges at the back sectionof the hood are accessible (I'mreasonably sure from memory!), which I would attack first as to fold the hood you need to fold the back sectionup first.

Unless I get the clutch sorted soon neither of us will have a driveable Stag, which will be asad state of affairsfor a first meet! Still at least my hood will work.... I hope.

If the rear hood catch will not release, try the following. Release the front levers first, then try again. If it still sticks, try banging the back corner while pulling the lever (you might need some help with that).

If that doesn't work let me know, there are still some other tricks.

piscean57 wrote:Did you see my Tiger parked in the 'pay-on-the-day' overflow classics area? I suppose we dont know what each other looks like do we?I am a bit of a night bird Julian!

I will look for you there then Chris.

I saw a few stags but no owners except a group with two yellow stags, but theyappeared to beself-contained and not interested in meeting others. So apart from Carl, who I knew would be there,I had to revert to talking to a couple of Sunbeam Alpine owners!

I saw a red Tiger in the Surrey Classic Vehichle Club area, near where the train started off. The programme said it was owned by B. Hunt so I didn't say hello.

Not sure where the overfolw area was but I may have seen it.

 What colour is your Tiger?
