    Yorkshire Triumph

Has anybody on here used Yorkshire Triumph at Goole to do work on their Stag? Im at a loss how to sort out the vibration issues on my Stag and dont relish the thought of spending more hours laid underneath the damn thing on the drive changing out new parts back for the old ones in order to trace the fault (and its p*ss*ng it down today). Also Ive got loads of jobs to do around the house and really need someone with a proper four poster lift to have a good look at it. Ive seen some of their restored Spitfires and they look very good and just wondered if anyone had used them?

I've used the services of Peter at Yorkshire Triumphs for the last couple of years on both my Spitfire and Stag (the Stag is there now having main bearings and pistons work done). I'm happy with the work I've had done

    Cheers

Ive spoken to the guy at YT and he reckons it will be the prop out of balance, which is annoying as its brand new and its a b*st*rd to swap as the exhaust needs to come off again. Will be very annoyed if it does turn out to be the prop as Im thinking of taking it in to YT to put the old one back onas Im busy with other stuff for the next three weeks and really want to get this sorted.

He also thinks the rear end clunk will be the diff and Im going to ask him to have a look at the gearbox whilst the cars with him as its never been right since it was rebuilt by Frauds. Looks like the money pit is going to get more money thrown into it:X

I have a vibration, think it might be propshaft too. Had all the wheels balanced, etc. universal joints ok.
It's around 65mph, can drive through it. Much faster vibe than wheel balance.
            Does that sound similar?

Similar @ 70. I have fitted another prop but still same. I mentioned to Dave that mine varies in intensity from one road to the next so wondered if it was 1/2 shafts with splines locking at difefrent points. It was always around 3k with old 3spd, now about 2.5k so don't think its the engine damper but what does this feel like when it goes?

I have had this very problem and it was the UJ's in the half shafts, wery easy to fix , unless you have the peened over ones.

Chris, I did one side a few weeks back, the other was last year - I can't see any detectable play in them.

My splines are a bit rubbish too, quite a lot of lash in the diff. I have a manual box with overdrive and notice a vibe difference between o/d in and o/d out.

Yea all show and no go Steve.

Dont think Col succeeded in getting Brians inlet manifold to fit, sounds like its a case of loosen off a head (dodgy) or get the inlet manifold skimmed, hows yours coming along?

By the looks of the posts on this vibration issue its a common problem. Ive fitted Datsun drive shafts to mine with new ujs and hub bearings so doubt its drive shafts thats causing it on mine although a uj could have gone I suppose.

As Ive already said mine seemed tostart (well got worse)when I swapped the prop and modded the exhaust to quad pipes, dont think its the exhaust so prop looks favorite along with wear in the diff causing the clunk on take up. Its really annoying as it makes the car feel like a real old banger to drive, looks great but drives crap and I cant be doing with that:X.

Yes it does Graham, mine starts at 35 and clears about 55 but still occurs even if I stick the clutch in and knock the car out of geararound those speeds so points to something in the drive train after the gearbox. Pete at Yorkshire Triumph said he would swap the prop as a starting point, easier said than done as it means removing the exhaust system again:Xwhich is why Im thinking of letting him do it as its much easier to do with the car on a ramp.

                            Dave,

have problem with requiring helicoil to inlet manifols so its all stopped for the time being

will get it moving the water pump is all fitted expect for the inlet manifold bit

if that doesnt cure the water leak think petrol and match comes to mind

                              Hi Dave,

I had a similar vibration between 50 and 65mph when I converted to MOD. Not too bad with the top down but unbearable and worrying with the hard top fitted. I was well pi55ed off because I'dfitted new UJs before fitting the second hand prop.

Thought about having it balancedbut struggled to find anyone local that could do it, considered messing about trying to balance it with jubilee clips but it seems thatbecause it's a two piece prop and the rubber is 35 yrs old it would most likely always be trouble.

Ended up fitting a Rimmers CV shaft, vibrations completely cured but have read that these shafts may be suspect long term.

Has nobody thought of supplying exhausts with modern flanged clamps on the front pipes? Would make the job a lot easier.
