    SIP compressors

Awork colleaguetold me they once sold the SIP 3HP 14cfm compressor in Makro but didn't make a note of the price. I think they came out quite well in a magazine group test a while back.

Has anybody seen these recently in Makro (or elsewhere) for less than the direct prices below ?

    50 litre http://www.sipuk.co.uk/tools/info_SIP06242.html @ £259

    100 litre http://www.sipuk.co.uk/tools/info_SIP06244.html @ £333

Any opinions whether these are decent for occassional home use, including panel 'blow-ins' but not a full respray ? (therefore the recent Aldi offering doesn't seem to quite meet that requirement)

Iintend to respray our 1950s aluminium kitchen cupboardswhich should act as a good practise before letting loose on tidying up our Stag

    Cheers

Hi Paul, before you splash out the dosh, check Shiremoor compressors,i purchased one of these which is belt driven which helps to keep the noise down. It's 14cfm with a 100litre tank.Mine came with wheels fitted one end,i bought one of there regulators which has two outlets, total price with delivery £336-63 on the 5/12/07.It drives my shot blaster, spray kit and air tools. It's worth a look.THERE BASED IN NORTHUMBERLAND don't know what there prices are like now but they do sell demo units but they go very quickly, hope this helps, Colin H.

Definately a bargain - getting harder to do on Ebay these days, so congrats !

Am I right tobe concerned about the state of tank internals (damp/rust etc) on used compressor as I'm intending to get stuck into paint spraying ? I don't see an issue though if just powering tools though.

You're right to be concerned in case it explodes but not sure what you can do about it. Also as they auto stop/start keep kids away from the nasty bits. Mine was new but I put in a separate shed thats locked when in use (also keeps air intake away from paint fumes and the cat out of the belt) and always drain afterwards. Best I can do. Try for the largest motor and largest tank on 240v supply, mine will just run on 13a socket.

I guess if worried about internals could dismantle and take to a dive shop for examination?

Before i get mine up and running i shall inspect inside the tank with a camera on a flexi rod but i suspect it will be fine,it didn't sound like there was much loose metal inside. Also both regulators have water traps.

              Cheers Steve

steve, are you sure that they are both water traps ? i have a water seperator on one line and i take a feed off that for paint spraying work and then a feed from the seperator through an oil mist unit which lubricates my air tools .without that the tools dont last long before gumming up and wearing out ,especialy if they dont get used for a while they rust inside the motors. a water /sep will remove some but not all the vapour a drier is needed for that. iwould idealy drain weekly or after every use.on a larger unit like yours an auto drain could be fitted so you cant forget.ps i would personaly not have a 200 litre tank in close proximity to my house when full for fear of failure i have witnessed first hand the devastating effects of a ruptured reciever:shock:they can be run outsde in a well ventilated house a good chippy could soon knock one upand the advantage is less noise and cooler running very important.

just my two bob hope its of use........

Thanks for the heads up on the oil mist unit ,i'll take a more indepth look at the regulators .As for the distance from my house, its in my shed 50m away.I intend to extenend my shed so the compessor is in the back part and the work is done in a seperate section infront of it .

                  Cheers Steve
