    Spax shockers

    Hi guys,
I quite fancy fitting some spax shockers over the winter period. Anyone know the best/cheapest source of supply, and whether gas ones are worth the extra outlay for the performance gain.
    Any help appreciated.
    cheers,
    Peter f

I don't know about prices but I fitted front and rear spax adjustables, and took the ones off the front to me they were quite unacceptably hard the rears are ok though
Standard stag thrashed and enjoyed, Nissan Murano ( very underrated, very thirsty, very fast)

      Hi Chris,

I was thinking of standard gas ones - are these a different animal??

      cheers,

      Peter

PS: Are you going on the run on Sunday?

Had them all round ,anything other than fully soft was unpleasant so i sold them and went back to standard ones,I have got 15" lower profile tyres though which would make a difference.

        Cheers Steve

I fitted rear spax on a friends car, set at the recommended initial position. We think they are OK. Not sure about front ones though.

Anyone had experience with these types ?. If so any good ?.

I have spax adjustables all around. The rears are set to 8 clicks and are fine, the front are fully soft(?) but I think still a little too hard. I'm not taking them off again tho!!

I bought mine from Robsport, I think LD parts sell them too

Seems as if the Spax adjustables are to hard even on the softest setting.

Has anyone experience with the Spax non adjustable types ?.

                  Hi Don,

You're asking all the questions I was just about to ask!!

I too don't want to be fitting them and taking them off again because I don't like them.

It will be interesting to see what other people think who have fitted them.

Thanks for the link you posted.

                  cheers,

                  Peter f

Very interesting to read others comments. I fitted front Spax adjustables bought from LDParts last year and don't find them hard at all. They are set at position No 3 currently and I always thought I was a bit of a softie. I haven't tried them at softer settings but probably will now to see what effect that has. The Spax replaced what I think were the original oil filled inserts - i.e. they were not self contained struts but relied on the oil in the tube to work.

I also bought adjustable rear shocks at the same time but haven't fitted them yet .. just no free time. I wasn't expecting these to make the ride firm either.

What I did notice many years ago was that the choice of tyre made a huge difference in the ride quality. I had Firestone tyres and changed to Michelin which have a much softer feel. Some Stag specialists who drove my car with the Firestones commented on the firm ride ...

So there you have it. I seem to have a different view to others and would say the Spax's are good.

                    Cheers

                    Graham

Peter you must remember how hard the ride was you were in the car on the first ride out with them!

I have Spax adjustables all round and mine are fine. Mine were the same as Grahams, replacing the oil filled strut dampers.

                        Tyres are vredestein classics.

I have started off on the lowest setting but will probably adjust them up a couple of clicks. They haven't made the ride hard at all.

I recently dealt with this guy http://www.absolutelyshocks.com/ for the Trevor

and was really pleased when I found out ihe worked-out of the Gaz factory. Dont know where Spax or some of the others available are made, but it was a real treat to see something being made locally - Essex.

Derek is his name and he loves a deal

That's the fronts are on the lowest setting, the rears are set about halfway six or seven clicks I think.
