    Wind deflector material

Anyone know what the wind deflector material is called, and where to get some? It seems to be a rubberised fine black net.I guess I could make a deflector for a few quid rather than the arm and leg that you have to pay for them ready made.

Nah, that's what you'd use on a Spitfire - gettit ? and instead of a wind deflector it would be a Hurricane deflector

      Coat time ?

It is the same material they use for sunscreens on rear and side windows of cars, have a look on fleabay for large screens, made mine from old rear window type which folds back into reel mech. MARTIN.

            Hi Paul
I was thinking of doing the same. I have a deflector, I believe off of a Merc. which I was going to use for experiments.
My solution was to use 30mesh silk screen fabric and use mesh adhesive to glue to a pipe frame. All the ones I have seen are stretched taut, and so I was going to adhere it in the same way we fixed the screen frames. The only thing is that the mesh does not come in black so it would have to be dyed using dylon before use.
I could bring the one I have to the next N&N if you are coming.
            regards
            Barry

Textilene comes in all colours inc black. It is able to be stitched has stretchability so can be pulled taut, has enormous strength, is used for leisure seating etc. Ithas good see through visibility. Try Point North fabrics inAnglesey WALES. They may have something similar. I have made my own deflector with it.

                  Hi Barry,

That's very interesting but I think the ability to stitch a pocket for the rods is a better idea than gluing them, and I don't know if nylon will stitch. I also like the idea that the fabric will stretch this will keep it taught under wind pressure will the nylon do that. Still it would be good to see how you get on but I don't think we can make any of the N&Ns - just not possible in the week, perhaps tghere may be another opportunity.

                    Allan,

That's just what I need, thanks. Have you got any drawings? I think I know how I want to do it, but I' be keen to see how you did it, and any improvements you would make if you were doing it again.

                    Thanks for the info.

                    Paul
