Locks no keys - Please Help

I have a complete set of locks from the Stag I have just started to rebuild , but have no keys at all . This gives me two problems, which I would lokve any advice from you chaps out there:

    1) I cannot release the steering lock, therefore cannot turn the front wheels. I had to drag the Stag to line up to the trailer, but obviously cannot manoeuvre it around easily. What's the esiest way to free up the lock? (I am stripping the car to refurbish / replace parts anyway but would like to keep the steeing intact for a while to be able to move if necessary).

    2) Can a new set of keys be ordered / cut by anyone for the car. I have various nos. on the ignition switch assembly and they are the original locks etc from when the car was new.

    Thanks

    Nigel

    Good Morning,

You can remove the steering lock, just take off the steering cowl three screws then you will see the bottom of the lock, there are two shere bolts there just make a screwdrive slot in them and turn out, or if your luck make a nic in them and drift out.

    Hope this helps

If the locks / keys are the ones fitted new B M I H T wiil have key numbers logged on there certificates that give build details etc. The lock barrels have the key numbers stamped on them. On the subject of build certificates owners often show them on their cars for information to the publicWITHOUT removing the key numbers.Good luck.

stagx790 - thanks for the reply. I have dropped an email to BMH to find out how to get the lock nos. Assuming I get hold of these who would know how to make a set of keys with that number?

Sorry for the daft question, but I am only at the beginning of my Stag journey....

I had a set made up from just the numbers; chap is the US did them for me. They weren't expensive either. I'll see if I can find his email/details

Often you can get the keys at car shows or autojumbles. you will need the number though.

If you can get the locks off the car you can take them to a decent locksmith who should then be able to cut keys to fit.

I don't know if these guys might be able to help, http://www.locksmithswinchester.org.uk/index.htm, I've not used them myself, but their blurb sounds a lot like the chap I've used in the past in Kent.

                  Hi all

I now have the key codes from BHIMT, so does anyone know a Triumph supplier of "original" style keys and cut from the codes?

Locksmiths will not normally keep the blanks. Get the key blanks from LD Parts, and take them to your locksmith.

Our local locksmith in Crewe reckons he has suitable key blanks in stock to cover EVERY type of car manufactured in this country since the early 1970'sLooking at the dust on some of them I reckon they haven't been touched during that entire time:?
