    2000 miles in 48 hours

    Hi all

Always on the look out for an excuse to drive the Stag i have entered the Club Triumph, Round Britain Reliability Run.

For those not familiar with this event it involves leaving an agreed start point (The Plough) in Middlesex, heading north to John O'Groats, before heading west and south (via Wales) down to Lands End and finally along the south coast to return to The Plough.

In all, just over 2000 miles (not including the 500 mile round trip to the start line and back) all in 48 hours

Participation in this event has also spurred me on tocomplete a number of jobs some of which have been on the back burner for a while now.

    Work completed includes the following;
    • general service
    • replacement supergill radiator and cooling flush
    • EJ Wards headlamp conversion
    • installation of electric radiator fan
    • new carb diaphragms and needle O rings
    • new poly bushes to rear subframe mounts
    • fit rear sub frame antivibe straps (never realised these were missing from my car, what a transformation to thehandling)
    • fit stainless trim surround to the windscreen (I cracked the screen in the process so ended up replacing the screen as well)
    • new overdrive switch and wiring harness
    • new rear exhaust section, rubber hangers
    • new exhaust, centre section brackets
    • fixing a number of blowing joints on the exhaust
    • replaceN/S electric window switch
    • finish refurbing the alloy wheels
    • 1 new front and 1 new rear wheel bearings
    • replace broken choke cable
    • check all rubber fuel hoses, particulalry those in the boot and tighten all hose clips (that eliminated the fuel smellI have been plagued with for some time now)
    • free off seized handbrake in N/S drum
    • checking oil level in gearbox
Its fair to say that the car is now driving better than it ever has in the seven years I have owned it.

The Forum has proved to be an invaluable resource when undertaking several of the above jobs,I cannot believe the information available, no matter how obscure my query someone seems to have taken a photo from just the right angle or know just the answer I have been looking for. So many thanks to all who have posted.

1500 shake down miles have been completed this summer, the car hasbeen cleaned and polished and everything is now ready for our departure next friday on the 1st October.

A friend has been coerced into being co-driver and together we hope to drive some amazing roads, provided wecan stay awake that is.

The nominated chairty for the 2010 event is MIND, who are the UK's leading mental health care charity and who have been speaking out for better mental health care for many years now.

Should any of you wish to support our participation in this event then donations can be made via our online fundraising page which can be found at the address below.MayI thankyou in advance for any donations you feel able to make.

      Hi Wolfie

I'll see you at the Start, I'm also entered, although not with the Stag (new engine, not run in yet), I'm in my Trusty Spitfire 1500 - saving the Stag for next years 10CR with Club Triumph

Like you, my car is now prepared and stickered up ready for next Friday's start and have set up a Virgin Money Giving page.

If anyone wants to follow our progress there is a message diary on the Club Triumph site where we will be posting messages - I am in car 97

Hi Wolfie, it looks like you have a busy week ahead of you preparing the Stag. I did 2700 miles in France this summer but not in the time scale that you are attempting. My preparation was treatment with 'watter wetter & 'k-seal' .
I will PM you my telephone number & e-mail address and if you need support in southern Scotland please contact me. This is support that 'Le Jog' participants have used in the past. It is a long way with little sleep I think that some matchsticks would be a good inevstment. Feel free to pass my details onto other TRIUMPH entrants.
          Best of luck
          Peter

Just to let you know folks, I successfully completed the Round Britain Reliability Run last night - apologies that I didn't do it in the Stag, maybe next time, but the Spitfire behaved almost impeccably, she needed an alternator change during the run but we were carrying a spare (or rather my mate was with whom we were doing the event so all I had to do was wait for him to turn up)

Overall fuel consumption over the 2000 miles was 40mpg - I'd be lucky to get much more than 20 in the Stag!

I can thoroughly recommend this run to any like minded individual, it really tests both man and machine (and ladies of course)

                Steve

Well done Steve. I was pleased to be able to get to the penultimate sign-in in Didcot last night and wave a number of cars through - yours might have even been one of them. Due to other committments, we didn't get there until nearly 18:00, but we did stay until it all went very quiet and then headed home at about 20:00.

I was in my blue 2.5PI but the distance it had to travel there and back from home pales into insignificance compared with the 2000 miles you and the other entrants achieved.

A great evening with the sight and sound of so many Triumphs.

                  Cheers,
                  Mike.

Felt sorry for this guy who travelled all the way from America with his GT6.
