Same here, as I said on the other post no SOC no forum easy as that, 36 squid is not really very much when you consider the amount you can save in garage bills with a question postedand some bloody good answers from the chaps.
I think the club gives too much away for free. Make it another member benefit. I think most people on here get their monies worth for their membership fee. Most of the people who slag the club off on the forum are non members anyway, that part we can do without.
As a fairly new member and owner ...I can honestly say with the help I have had and the advice receivedfrom various members of this forum, it has easily paid for the cost of the SOC fees.To me this thing is a no brainer, just have members and non members sections it works in many of the forums/clubs. Or have a donation facility for the forum which opens up sections once you have paid £X. Job done
I have been a member of a fair number of forums and owners clubs and this is by far the best forum so lets not loose the plot here and head down another cul-de-sac ( thought I would get a motoring reference in:P)of boring posts about how bad or good the magasine is. To me the SOC is a lot more than a magasine which in fairness is no better or worse than any other one I have had, or still get from other clubs. In fairness I buy magasines and only read the bits I wantor am interested in.
Off soapbox and back to my coffee now have to decide what to do about my shabby seats
Totally agree.
Cynically this appears to divide the "something for nothing" brigade from those who maybe see wider issues. As I understand the e mail from Carl, those who do not wish to pay out the relatively nominal sum for membership will still have "read only" access, so arguments about not attracting new members via a forum fall flat on their face.
The SOC is a members club, owned & run by it's members. A common factor in every similar club I am involved with is a small but vocal minority who are never happy with the direction, management, costs, colour of the carpets etc but never make any effort to be part of any change. It is easy, for example, to sit on the sidelines & complain that the Club does nothing for young people. If you or your children/grandchildren are in this "neglected" group step up & do something pro-active to help the change. Maybe a young persons forum etc?
The wider issues to me revolve around funding the tooling of parts no longer available to keep our cars on the road, the sharing of a common passion whether through the magazine, forum, shows, local meets or whatever, & other benefits like insurance, shop.
I guess it's bit of a catch 22. If you do not belong and/or join in anything Club related then what goes on in areas around the country will be of little or no interest. QED get involved or stop moaning. Not all members want to live on or by their PC's!
