emptying the carbs of old petrol

    hi there

I am in the process of trying to start my stag after a two year hibernation, and she refuses to start, good spark and pumps working, bit the petrol smells more like turps!

have pumped the tank empty but what is the best way of purging the old fuel out of the carbs? regards simon.

in the past ive diluted with new fuel via a supply from a bottle or whatever on gravity to the carbs .but to kick it into life you can tak the hose for vac advance off dizzy and put into a small lid or container with a bit of fresh fuel to fire it vacuum puls it into the manifold and away she goes

Try pouring a spoonful of petrol down both carb elbows/air intake.Same principle as squirting Bradex easy start in there, but free(someone is bound to work out the cost of a spoonful of petrol ).
      It worked for me.
      Cheers

What a brilliant idea - I'd never heard of that before.

        Simple but effective

        Cheers

It works brilliantly but did you know that cars become addicted to it ?

No joke - can't explain it and it doesn't really make sense but I've known a few people who've used easy start successfully but then the cars have often been reluctant to start without easystart :?

Spooky - unless it's something the manufacturers put in it to increase sales

            Cheers

And did you allow for the volume restrained by the meniscus formed because of the surface tension of the fuel ?
