Hoods and bodywork in W Yorks

Hoods and bodywork in W Yorks - Advice please

    ONE

I have mentioned before I need to have my body work done and a complete respray. Unfortunately, the guy who was going to do it is not now able to.

Can anybody recommend a decent body work garage, that won't charge the earth? A garage in West Yorks or neighbouring counties would be considered.

Bits wise, I probably need the bottom half of both rear sills and the front valance, and some oddments (like one front rain channel). I would probably buy these myself from Rimmers or Paddock; but I need a complete respray, and a change of colour from Java Green (yes, I know there are some fans of this colour, but I ain't one).

    TWO

I need (pretty darn quickly), a new hood AND frame (the leading bar with the two locking handles is made from 50% rust and 50% thin air. (The passenger side handle does not fasten and there is a gap about two inches to the left of my side handle. The floor is covered in thick flakes of rust from this bar). I dare not drive at more than 40mph as the hood lifts at just 20mph, and any significant speed is likely to rip it off entirely.

The only supplier of the complete thing I can find is Rimmers, but they want an arm and a leg (well over a grand). Can anybody recommend a decent supplier who are a bit cheaper than that?

    Thanks,

hi there, you might try just triumph in congleton, cheshire for your hood, martin strips triumph stags and sells all the parts.if the hood material is ok it is possible to replace the front bar only with a bit of care, the hinge pin was broken on mine and in hind sight I would have replaced the front half of frame instead of a repair. I am in north Staffordshire and use an excellent paint shop for my road cars although this may be further than you want to travel.from past experience though you get what you pay for and I would always want to see previous jobs from any paint shop before parting with any hard earned ! remember if you're keeping the car long term you have to look at it and be pleased for a long, long time bud.
good luck with it all. regards. pete.c

          Thanks,

I have a recommendation for a body shop now, here in W Yorks (in Castleford)(and I think I've previously heard about the same guy, so it's promising). Not an active member myself, but I guess I can trust folk on here enough in general when they recommend someone.

I really need a new hood - I presume the frame and cover are original, and the cover is patched all over with glued on knee/elbow patches

          Thanks again

OK I've ordered a hood from Chris (VMad). I'll be investigating bodywork shortly!
