    Seats

Since buying the Stag I have been toying with the idea of having the seats (which are totally knackered) either recovered or replaced. I have had a number of quotes on recovering and priced up the diy route via places like Aldridge and so on. But that really does hammer my resto budget, which frankly I would rather spend elsewhere than the soft furnishings

So left we three alternatives from what I have seen and read about BMW e30sports /Alfa GTV/Fiat Coupe. The BM seats seems to fetch very high prices for black and I didn't want the bother of changing the colours of others. Alfa leaves me with the embroidered badge to sort, and this left Fiat Coupe. So have been on the hunt for the past month or so and managed to pick these up (with unwanted rears although the leather may come in handy?) for £45, plus the costof delivery, although a quick post on Shiply knocked that down to £35 for 120miles and I didn't have to get the car out. So all in I think they are a bargain

They do have some wear, no tears or holes, but I think it adds to the character. I'll cover them in conditioner and use some leather dye from gliptone in their scuff kit (now ordered)

So guess what I'll be up to for the next few wet weekends! Although I might tackle the whole interior in one go so need to aquire some more bits over the coming weeks!

What do you think? (Look away now purists) Cheers Glyn :P

Great seats. They look nearly as good as my Fiat ones.

I looked high and low for some Tomcat jobbies.. but the are getting like rocking horse doings!

It was your post and a couple of others that started me thinking of changing rather than recovering. Although I see the Rover seats fit in the back too you lucky b*gger!

Now I need a decent passenger side seat belt as I have two totally different designs fitted! Then on to the carpets and the dash..... oh and the tree that grows tenners would be nice in the garden :P

Speaking as Mr. Purist (hut hum!) I think you should throw them away as a Stag should have a Stag interior :P

Seriously though they look quite good and were a real steal at that cost Glyn. The Gliptones stuff is very good, so I am sure you will be happy.

Just don't throw the original seats away so that when your budget does allow you can get them refurbed and refitted.

I'll be sticking them in the attic above the garage ....one day I'll have a sale not quite the Chatsworth House one

I would just rather have the cash spent on other things at the mo and I do think we are being taken to the cleaners on some of the quoted costs for recovering the originals IMHO

Hi did you get the MK1 headrest recovered before fitting , i have some recovered ready to fit once the seats are redone- but on dry fitting the headrest there is gap between headrest and seat not sure if the may need to be realigned, my request is if you have time for picture square on of the seats with headrest if possible so I can see how they are supposed to line up or if the screws in the back have to be moved down-dont think there is any tolerance for the screws, fit into disignated holes?

appreciate picture front on when you can

                      cheers steve

                        Hi Steve
The headrests came like this, excellent condition.the best way to deal with the gap is to fiddle around with the backrest foam in the middle. There is not alot of adjustment in the screws on the headrests. Here is a shot a bit closer. Hope this helps.
                        Paul.

this helps alot shows the line up - will get mine out again and have play I had to have mine recovered as they had been tan/biscuit colour and Iam concerned they have been recovered slightly differently as new foam had to be used and the end result may not have been quite the same as the originals

                          thanks again

Hi Glyn, I've gone down the same route. Bought a set of leather seats from a Mazda MX-6 last Friday for £100. I fitted one front seat yesterday. Bit of a challenge, had to take the angle grinder to the runners on the Mazda seats. Managed to use the two fixings on the inboard side (by the handbrake) and made plates for the outer fixings.

Seems strange sitting on a seat not "in" it !

The other seat should be a lot easier now I know what I'm doing. I hope to adapt the rear to fit aswell. One bonus is the drivers seat is electricly operated.

                            Good luck with yours......
