    Harden that crankshaft!

    Here are some photos taken of the crank from the engine that seized its jackshaft on the motorway back in March. Oil pressure just before it went bang was 30 psi at 4000rpm, which I was thinking was a bit low but a lot of heat was probably being put into the oil by the iminent seizure.

    Neil. Can it be re ground then tuftrided?

      It can be reground, mains are at 20 thou currently, so are big ends, but I also have a spare crank that is only ground 10 thou at the moment but it also needs a regrind.

      Whichever I do it will definately be hardened.

      The crank that is fitted to the engine currently in the stag had been fitted with the thrust washers back to front. This had definately been hardened as the thrust washers had been worn to half thickness but the thrust area of the crank had hardly been touched!
