    what is concourse

I have been wondering whatmakes a concourse car. Is it how clean your car is? or How original is car? To me they are both in cotradiction.

You could have the most original motor with only a few k on the clock, never been messed with, still all original but shows age of thirty years of storage.

against a pristine, restored model with no expense spared. remanufactured parts etc etc

So what would be the judges choice!

Shaun, I have always viewed it as being as close to how it was when it came of the factory line. As Ian says, there are not many like that now which would explain why we don't have any proper concours at our shows. Not that I am into all that.

"What is concourse". A waste of a good car in my humble opinion!!!!

Some of the preened concourse examples don't even function as a car. Their owners won't start the engines up (if they work) in case it dirties something!

But its a free country so let themdo as they wish.

Extract from Wikipedia,...but not a hard and fast rule IMO, Concours competitions rules vary according to Country, clubs, judges, and many other influences...

            Sukh.

"Concours competitions also are run forclassic cars. Here, the emphasis is as much on originality as the condition, although this also is very important. The general aim is to present a vehicle that is in the same, or better, condition than it was in when it left the production line. Unless original, modifications are not allowed, and components must be suitable for the year and model of the automobile. Even components or features fitted to automobiles of the same type, but in a different production year or trim level, are not allowed. Original-equipment-accessories from the manufacturers own range are allowed and some competitions allow after-market equipment and accessories, provided they are of the correct period. On top of this, automobiles must be presented in flawless visual condition, as with other Concours-grade cars".

Hi Shaun, a good question, the SOC does not take the concourse epithet seriously, winners have included a LHD conversion, a ground up re-build, a car with non original wheels/colour etc. All beautiful cars, but not concourse in the classic sense. I would like to see a "cars in constant use" class, but I think I'm alone in that.
I think when these competitions are called, most owners are too modest and few entries are received, so the field is opened up to anything that looks good, a bit sad when you compare us to Jag,TR, MG, Sunbeam, Rover and so on. Martin.

                  Ahhh ^^^

That explains all the chrome tat under the bonnet of some of these show queens.

That said I will happily pore over a factory spec car for hours and marvel at the time and effort to get it that way.

But i much rather givemine 6000rpm accelerating upto speed onto a motorway:dude:

                      Hi Ian,

Your correct as it left the factory, but better

We will never have a concourse car's because even though they are clean etc, we use them to much and don't just bring them out for shows.

Didn't they do this at National Day a few years back? I think it's a great idea.

FWIW Concourse to me is as it left the factory; so no chrome bling; metallic paint funky stereos etc etc, just a Mr Triumph would have build it if he hadn't slipped down the pub at lunch time for a pint or three
