How many rev's?

Just a question for those with knowledge of the RV8 mated to an auto box.

What should this lump rev up to in general and also in each gear? - I understand that depends on the gear ratio and type of box.

The actual arrangement I have is a 3.5 V8 (from an SDI) and a GM180 autobox.

I would not take it past 5,500. I heard some where on a stock engine any higher then this certain area,s of the engine can be come oil staved. One of those factual itches you can not put your finger on may be totaly b@@@@cks

I seldom go past 5000 revs.

Changing at that point gets you pretty close to peak toque in a longer gear and the world is going by pretty quick after you have done it a couple of times. Still sounds good until you hit the rev limiter though and the decat exhaust and minimal silencing makes it all very nascar

I don't think you can go past 5700rpm without pumping up the hydraulic lifters which holds the valves open. Once missed a manual shift on my rover v8 autobox and revved it off the clock! It was left running on a couple of cylinders until the lifters bled down again, scared the sh*t out of me

Apparently SD1 conrods also stretch the little end eye over 6200 which lets the press fit gudgeon pin move sideways which scores a big groove in the cylinder bore, though I did use 6500 on my 3.9RV8 but this had pre mass production cosworth pistons which were a lot lighter than the standard ones

std rv8 = 'fluffy' at 5200rpm

possible to go higher with trick pushrods & lifters.

maybe ohc is the answer? :shock:
