Gent's came across this on the web. They say that they undertake hard top rebuilds. They also refurb Stags. I have no association with this mob, just thought it might be handy. I would imagine they won't come cheap though
I can easily see where the money goes. I don't think they are marking it up too much. If you look at the price of a new headlining, rear and side window seals, front and rear rubber seals, etc. you are up to about £200. Then add the cost of professional paint, rustproofing, etc. and you have another £300+. Factor in the time to make repair panels, cut out rust, weld in new, and prepare. And as there are many compound curve, double-skinned sections, it isn't simple to do or other companies would provide the service.
I was quoted £500 in 1992, which is why mine languished in the garage for over 10 years before I plucked up the courage to have a go myself. It still cost me for paint, headlining, seals etc............
Makes the £70 cost of the optional extra hard top on 1970 seem a bargain....
Not had any dealings with the company doing this hard top work, but the photographs of the Stags theysell occasionallyseem impressive.

I agree with DJT, it seems like a lot but there is an awful lot of work needed on these things, at £1650 + cost of supplying the hood might make me look after mine a bid more, the dam things takes up too much room in the garage for something that is only used for two or three months each year at most - if only the fibre glass tops were still available.

well with buying my hardtops, 2 into one does go , i think i'm up to about£380, just on seals headlining and wax injecting, plus painting internally with Bilt Hambler,so far, minus paint and my time, it sounds a lot but if you have to repair it then paint it with the time spent on it at say £35 hour i dont think they will make very large profit, unless i'm going over the top
