MOT Failed - car off road

My Stag failed it's MOT this afternoon, nothing spectacular but I have no time to fix it so it looks like it's off the road for a while, I have a few other bits to fit anyway so I may as well plan it all in:

    MOT Failure Points -
Steering rack ball joints worn so replace rack
    Rear brakes juddering/snatching - check/replace cylinders/drums/shoes
    CO reading 7.5%

    Outstanding jobs (parts all bought)
Move alternator, fit new HO alternator
    Fit external water pump
    Fit Wards expansion tank

If only I had some time, I'm currently dividing my time between the UK & New Orleans, approx 2 weeks about, SWMBO doesn't like me tinkering too much when I'm home right now.

Replacing the steerin rack ball joints is easy; ne need to remove the rack; I think LD Parts sell a kit for this.

I just spoke with Graham and have ordered the kit, doesn't sound too bad a job if I can get large enough spanners, thanks for the tip.

            HI Ian,

Glad to see you have mopped up that oil now

I used the refurb kits from LD's for my carb's my C/O was way over 7%, after cleaning and and re setting the mixtures and balancing them it run's quite nicley. C/O is now 3.8% and it idles at 650 rpm. It also returned about 27 mpg on the run to the Mile of triumphs recently. In all it cost about £50 I think for the kit's, new needle valves and a mainfold O ring.

            Ian.

I'm still rotating out to New Orleans, probably another 2 trips before December, I have said I'm prepared to go until Xmas if needs be. I'm mulling over replacing the carbs, I've not had as much bother with Strombergs on other cars, I may replace the current pair.
