Getting a respray - side strip or not?

For many frustrating reasons I'm going to have to get my 1972 MOD painted (BRG & black interior).

I know that this isn't an original paint colour from !972, but hey I like it!

What I want to ask opinions about are3 questions:

    - firstly did 1972 models have a side stripe?

    - secondly do the cars look better with or without a side stripe?

    - thirdly, given I'm decided on BRG, if I'm going to have a strip is Gold or Silver better looking - and I suppose medium or very thin???

I wish I knew how to put on voting buttons but I don't

    thanks for your "informed" opinions..............

For me definitely silver. Matches much better with all the chrome imo.

I'm no expert, but wasn't 1972 about the time that the mk2 came out and the side strip?

Mine's BRG and it looks very nice with a gold strip, thin top strip and thicker strip below. Mind you I have a tan interior, not black.

At the end of the day, it's down to personal taste.

Out of interest how far are you stripping down your stag before painting?

          Hi Alistair,

Personal choice, but for me it had to be silver to replace the gold that was on there before. This is a 'before' pic, I've just posted an 'after' pic on the 'where are the yellow ones' thread.

As your body colour sounds very similar to mine I hope these pics will be helpful for you - please feel free to PM me if I can help.

          Cheers

          Julian

Ps From new, both silver and gold were applied to BRG cars although I think that only silver was applied to Brooklands green cars. (I know that yours was earlier than Brooklands)

Pps There also was 'Emerald' IIRC. That's not your colour is it?

I think green and gold go with each other well, but silver matches with the wheels (I am very pleased you did away with the colour coded wheel as part of it Julian ).

The Stag definitely looks better with stripe.

If your car is a MK1 it would have not had a side strip when new, all models from 1973 onwards had strips..
But if you want a strip gold looks better imho

a twin I think! this is mine before the bonnet was done (its now darker) - its not Brooklands, its not emerald and its not BL BRG...... so is it Triumph BRG??? I doesn't matter its going!

On prep - I'm just rubbing down as a key for new paint - the body is perfect no raust anywhere I can find - and certainly no paint bubbles or ever ripples!

its seems to be a mk1.5 - not sure if this is as a result of later improvements or because its a change over - Mk1 dash, M2 seats, mK 1 doors, mk2 paint/badges.......... ? Think the reg is May 1972 - but would need to go upstair to check (and I'm too tired!)

As per my thread from a few days ago, i didn't think the addition of the side stripe would make such a difference. For what ever reason it really sets this car off.

Either silver or gold looks great with a variety of dark green IMHO.

The paint does look good in the pic, but i'm sure your doing this fora goodreason. Anybody that has personally viewed cars after seeing pics on ebay can confirm the camera hides many sins. Good luck with the respray.

                              Glen.
