    Bad form, what?

I was kind of expecting someone to say this as I imagined it was not an isolatedincident. And I agree with you BAD FORM. I wont bid for his items again, no big loss as I said. And other guys out there who are associated with SOC and great to deal with

Sellers always have the right to withdraw and I think that is fine.

The most likely explanation in this case is that he got an offer he liked privately - either nothing to do with fleabay or through it via a message - and ended the auction. It's not uncommon and wouldn't put me off using fleabay as nothing has been gained or lost.

it is annoying though, especially when the item has been bid on for a while.

Yep I see your point Ian, but it kind of detracts from the spirit and rational of the whole Ebay thing. I kind of always viewed it as a game of cards. You get your hand andplay for the best result, notrecieve your hand of cards, look atthem and decide your not paying your stake and throw your cards in, or maybe I'm to old school

That's how I play eBay; if I set a low start and there's only a few bids then someone get a bargain. If I want a guaranteed minimum then I set a reserve ora higher starting price.

Suppose it's different if you using eBay as a business :?

I think "old school" is the best tbh, but there are decreasing numbers of us. Ebay is a hive of unscrupulous individuals and you have tohave your wits about you. All sorts of sharp practice goes on there, including having friends bid for things sometimes to drive price upward.

If you know that one seller makes a habit of withdrawing items then it's worth noting that and not bidding on their auctions. if that person is using it as a business in a niche market then word soon gets round doesn't it and that won't help them in the long run.

Ebay seems to favour buyers in the terms and conditions (wel that's what sellers say) but I was ripped of for £200 buying a faulty sat nav unit for my M3 which ebay did bugger all about.

I bought a part fromLC which was useless. He gave me a refund & I got a good part from Justriumph (very helpful)

I've had bad reports about LC from others in the club. He sends out rubbish.

I won't buy from him again.

              Fleabay or Evilbay??

I Bought some items from JustT and I thought they were wronG exhaust mounting rubbers. Spoke to Martin and he explained that the rubbers that were on the car at the time were probably the wrong one's and the one's from him were correct. Sure enough the one's he supplied were the correct ones and bore no resemblance to the type that I removed. All cleared up in a phone call, And great bloke to speak to, AND SEEMED PRETTY STRAIGHT.

                BASICALLY : Good ebayer

Have to agree about Les Clark's antics on ebay - I've bid on a couple of items only for them to be withdrawn - never again will I bother.

If he does that he is an ebay amateur. Most regular ebay sellers know that most serious biddersput in a bid in the last seconds or use a sniper program. As a buyer, if you put in a large bid too early, it can push up the price higher than if you hold back because, when other buyerssee a lot of bidding they sometimes get caught up in a bidding contest and bid too much. As a seller I have got some amazing prices because someone got carried away.

Know what you mean Chris. His ebay record shows he has been a member since 25-Mar-2005, and has a 100% positive feedback of over 5500. Trouble is you can't leave negative feedback for a seller who has withdrawn an item, whatever the reason.

I have bought from him before, and any concerns with items have been treated fairly, but have been caught by his withdrawal tactic a few times, so no longer bother to bid.

Ah LC; I just spotted who you were talking about. On reading one ofhis ads, I didnt think he was knowledgeable enough to sell stag parts, so it put me off. I didnt know he messed people around like that.

I had an annoying ebay stag dealer once. He sells stags from the Heathrow area, you may have seen the ads. I responded to one of his 'glowing' ads and arranged to meet, When i got there there was no one at the address and no car. He rang me and said he was at his sister's placenearby and wouild I go there to meet him? I said wehad already arranged the meeting place why could we not do that? He said OK he will come over. Then he rang again and said he had run out of fuel; would I go and meet him?

I had already wasted 45 minutes waiting for him, so I cried off. I didnt trust him.

                            Weird.

I have to say that 99% of classic car parts sellers (and buyers) are great people to deal with. Some sellers can't do enough to help.I just wish that ebay did not have the monopoly of the market, as their sellers fees (10% on parts!) are much too high.
