    Garage Flooring - what's best ?

For years now I have wanted to improve the look and the durability of my garage floor. As far as I can make out the options are
    1) Paint it
    2) Rubber Tiles
    3) PVC Tiles
    4) Sponge Tiles

Im guessing that in respect of cost that paint will be the cheapest but Im looking for something that is going to look stunning and wear well, ie I have heard that some tiles can move when the car is moved around on top.

There also seems to be various thicknesses of tiles. I will need to cover around 55sq meters.

So Im after your opinion - particularly if you have tried one of the above and what your honest opinion is of it now its been down for some time ( things can look great at first but is it still as good as the day you laid it - have you experienced any problems )

Be as specific as you can, ie if it was tiles, what make where they, do you remember the cost, what thickness and what they are made of etc...

    Photos would be fantastic!!

    Any help really appreciated

After years of painting garage floors, it looking immaculate....then lifting especially under tyres, when wet etc, I decided to do it properly with ecotile PVC floor tiles.

My garage is a double about 30 square meters and it was expensive over £1K, fitting myself which took a day, but worth it

It is blue with 4 rows of dark grey where the tyres run, plus I also added the ecotile tapered ones at the garage door opening plus dark grey PVC skirking board around the edge to cover the gap for tile expansion.

You can now walk in wearing just socks, clean and warm underfoot. Spills you can wash clean etc.

personally I would use ceramic fully vitrified floor tiles with a flexible adhesive to allow for any movement of the sub strata they will not stain or chip if you drop a spanner etc they look good for years and add value to a property.

Same here nicebit of old axminster which we took up when we bought the house. Covers the double garage nicely and means I'm nice and comfy working on the cars. I have some other old carpet sections I use when working on the dirty jobs. Mrs moans about me nicking the dyson to vac the garage though :P

I fancy tiling it at some stage but for now the carpet will do.

A friend of mine has just started his own business doing makeovers in garages. He is using his garage as a show garage. Here is his garage before makeover. In the next post have a look at the floor. I went down to see it and it looks magic.

What a transformation. I never thought about the aluminium flooring before and have just done my own with epoxy resin paint but now green with envy, I'm thinking about this aluminium floor.

                  Blimey that does look good....

I bet its not cheap though and my Stag resto fund is already taking a hammering!

Must say I had thought of plasterboarding the walls of mine to tidy it up, but it'll have to wait till next year now.!

                  cheers

I had toopted for the luxury of rugs and carpet as my stag made a fuss over being parked on concrete slabs...

Garden tools in a garage....they should be in a garden shed!

I totally agree. For my 40th birthday, my wife told me she had saved up £1000 for me to buy whatever I wanted. I still get slagged because I bought not one but two large sheds so I could put stuff that doesn't belong in my garage ie garden tools, bikes etc into the sheds and leave me with real garage stuff.

As soon as we moved into our present house with integral double garage:

                          1. Purchased large 'keter' plastic shed for all the garden stuff, bikes, outdoor kids stuff. Being plastic no rotting roof etc just a pressure wash once a year.

                          2. Replace the drafty up and overs for insulated Hormann sectional garage doors

                          3. Ecotile the floor as described earlier.

                          4. Job done, enjoy the garage for its intended purpose:dude:
