    What Alarm System?

As I have now started on the rebuild of our Stag (16 hours labour......and counting ) I wondered what Alarms people would recommend to fit. I am thinking about wiring it as I go, so I don't have to butcher a wiring harness.

My aim is to get towards concours for the build, but it will be a regularly used car, therefore I think alarm / immob makes sense.

Unipart Alarm stickers on the quarter lights. No wiring involve. Scared 'em off so far as the last time I looked Stag was still in the garage

Nige, have sent you a pm with an idea.

It's perhaps not a subject to put on an open forum and I'm sure everyone will now reply saying what systems they have installed. There is already one reply so everyone now knows what Stag doesn't have an alarm.

If I were a thief looking for a Stag, I would go on to a Stag Forum, type "alarm" into the search, note the Stags, then go to the next Stag meet and nick the one where I know where the alarm and immobilizer is (or isn't)!

Just recently on an exoticar forum, there was a guy that was so proud of the fantastic system he had designed for his rare car that he published all the details on a publicly accessible forum. In his profile was his address and it was a very small village and his car was so rare it would be found easily!

How do we know that 'Nige' is not that person?

I am toying with the idea of relocating the bonnet lock to the RH side. Then using a shortened choke cable with a bonnet release handle on the LH side. The, now redundant, choke micro switch would be wired up to an alarm fitted elsewhere in the car.

        Has anybody tried this?

Just to confuse readers of this forum I might put the dummy one on the RH side.

despite Drew's statement, I can confirm that my car also does not have an alarm fitted (not a requirement of the insurance) the car already has the best form of deterrent, a choke the average car thief now would not know what to do with it.

I would second that, but I have also seen an unusual Alarm fitted to a Stag (will not say whose or how it works) but suffice to say a thief would not get very far before the car came to a stop. I have two fitted to my Stag - the 2nd one being that the steering wheel is on the wrong side for where I live, which tends to put potential thieves off.
