    High Level Rear Brake Light

would some kind member(s) who have their hood up and /or hartop on please measure how high a row of red led's would have to be above the centre of the hood stowage cover so that they could be seen through the soft top and hard top windows when illuminated. Many Thanks. This would save me erecting my hood unnecessarily and / or fitting my roof prematurely.

    Thanks again, John

What you need is early Jaguar XJS convertible American market high level brake light, it is visible with hard top on and with soft top up, I have fitted a few over the years and they work and look fine.

      Hello Tony,

thanks for the prompt reply! I already have a suitable light, thanks, but it only sits about 20mm above its feet so I was going to extend the height slightly (about 30mm)! Is that going to enough?

Do you have a photo' of the Jag' light installed on a Stag?

      Regards, John.

One ofour local cars has a high level brake light fitted to the forward part of theboot lid, it's sprayed the same as the car and the profile suits. I think it is one of the aftermarket ones. It may be a better option than trying to fit one to the tonneau cover.

        regards,

        Raoul

Hi John, this lot on here today must be politicians as none have answered your question. The tonneau cover nearest the rear window is about 40mm, the front edge of the tonneau is about 20mm below the level of the rear window. That is with the hardtop fitted.

Any photos ( and info on where to get one) Raoul as I would like to fit one on my Stag as most of the local drivers here are pretty blind and don't see ordinary brake lights. One ran into me a few weeks ago when I was stopped but with my brake lights and indictor flashing waiting to make a turn, fortunately I was in the wife's Honda and not the Stag. I think the driver of the car that hit us was a Policeman too, as when the Police arrived they seemed to know him and shook his hand. Luckily I had a witness and got him to admit liability.

Thanks all, especially Peter! Well I've fitted it today with 1" spacers that I can remove if the light proves to be too high when the hood is up or the hard top is on!

I decided to fit it to the hood storage cover as it is designed to site on the rear parcel shelf of a saloon car and not really designed for exposure to rain!

I'll attach a picture ifI can.File size is too big! Will modify photo' and add later!

              Regards, John.

I hope you can see the detail in this photo' as I have reduced its size somewhat!

                Regards, John.
