Funny how things come full circle with Vauxhall now doing doors like that again.

I would love to get my hands on that! I do like the old Rovers and Austins the late 50's early 60's.

My first car at the age of 14 was an 1955Austin A90 -6 which had sat on a blokes drive up the road from my Dads for years. In the end I managed to get it off him with money I had saved from Spud picking at the local farm (non of that anymore eh?)ÂŁ50 and she was mine! One owner 40K miles and even had the original log book.

We stripped the engine refurbed small amounts of the body repainted her and re trimmed a couple of the door panels! The rest was originalShe was a smashing motor. What a gauge of steel in those cars, I saw one at a show a month back fond memories! Column change gears, I virually learned to drive in it up and down a private road!

Now if I had more space!

              Hi Glyn,
Talking about spuds, I used to pick spuds for the local farmer in the early sixties in the school holidays at two shillings and six pence (12 1/2p) per tub (a huge tub for a 11 year old - about 3 foot high.)
I filled eight a day to earn a quid, and could hardly straighten up the next day.
              happy carefree days nevertheless!

              cheers

                  Hi Peter

Bought my first decent pushbike and then my first car by working my n*ts off in a spud field! I keep telling my lad he has it far too easy!

                  Cheers

Hi Mark - you are right, it was half a crown. That was my pocket round about that time if I recall correctly. Long time ago (born in 1949!)
