    Seat foam / Carpet replacement

    Hi,

Now thatwinter is coming on, am planning get some work done on my MK2 interior , the plan is to have thedrivers seat foam replaced, plus have my carpet replaced . Have phoned around to get prices, and am leaning towards using "SE Trimmings", partly based upon a couple of positive forum recommendations for hood work, as well as what seems to be a competitive price . I gather they make up their own bases and produce their own carpets. Butbefore I make a final decisionI wondered if anyonehas any had any experiance of their workmanship and particularly can comment on the carpet quality.

    Thanks

I've recently refoamed our Stag driver's seat and headrest using foams from Aldridge and can thoroughly recommend their quality. Pretty straightforward to do and IMO I got a great finish from them. Worst part was removing all the old crumbly foam which was sooo sticky !

you may consider doing the refoam at home with foams from rimmers or who ever, it is easy to do and obviously cheaper.beware though the drivers seat base will be out of shape as the pedal off set means your bum always pushes the seat base to the passenger side when you brake or declutch if it's a manual car. I have had a price of £140 from a professional carpet fitter to replace mine with good quality carpet, seen a job he's done and it was really top class so you may consider this as an option in your area.

      good luck with it. pete.c

DIY kits are not to bad for the seat's just remember to use the extra thin pieces of foam to smooth out contours of the shoulder and back inserts. dont forget use Talcompowder to help insert seat base and back works very well.

Did mine in Leather well worth it.

Pro'son the shark infested Gold Coast were quoting $10000 for the seats and carpets!!

On the subject of seats, I see that Aldridges sell a multi piece backrest foam set whereas Paddocks (who I thought got all their trim from Aldridges :?) offer a one piece foam.

Any experience out there of either? - which type is best? All comments gratefully received.

          Cheers,

          Julian

Did my interior last year with one piece foams from paddocks well pleased seem a little hard at first but now has settled down i find very comfy no sagging just like sitting on a modern seat aldrige trimmers for all covers.

              Hi Julian,

I bought a pair of the one-piece foams a couple of years ago. Left the seats with a well-known local trimmers. Gave them a call a few days later to see how they were progressing and they were not impressed with the foams. They complained that they didn't fit unless a lot of rework was involved, which would cost me extra. Ultimately I ordered a set from Aldridge which they fitted with no problems. I was able to return the remaining non-butchered single piece foam to the suppliers for a refund, but the other was scrap.

If you are doing it as a DIY project like Seaking, then you may be able to spend the time to make them fit and be happy with the result.

If you want the easy life, or are paying a professional to do it, you may want to consider the Aldridge kit.

Thanks for all the feedback on the various merits of the main supplier "off the shelf" seat foams , but that's the issue. Spoke with the chap fromSE Trimming ,he said he had his own produced , and that was reflected in the price ... supply & fit was only about £20 more than the cost of buying the bases from Rimmers / Alderidge .They sounded knowledgeable and very helpful , but in an attempt tosave a few ££££ , I don't want to be disappointed in the quality of the finish, hence my search for someone who's had experiance of their product / workmanship.

                Any feedback gratfully recieved

Pig of a job in my opinion but I have been told vinyl is easy as it stretches a bit....

Don't forget the webbing and the diaphragm if you go the 5 part route....

                        Hi

Bought my carpets and the foam set from SE and they are very good quality - the seat foams have a number of pieces so practice well before you glue them together.
