We would like you opinion on a possible project of re manufacturing the Air Intake Grill that sits between the bonnet and the windscreen. This project has been looked at before but has always run up against huge front end costs that have priced it out of reach.

What we would like to know is how much you would be willing to pay for a brand new re manufactured item.

Keep in mind that old re plated items that are available sell for around £100 and these are still far from perfect, particularly inside the grill. There plating often just hides the faults which will appear again after time.

Just to clarify your responses will not determine the eventual price, i.e don't click £50 because you think that will mean we will be able to provide it at that price, it will simply mean the project will not proceed because its not viable. So think about what you would actually be prepared to pay for a quality item that enhances the look of your Stag.

We would like to thank you all for your previous suggestions of future projects for SOCTFL, I would like to assure you that they are all being investigated and we will update you as soon as we can.

I think if they were made from polished stainless steel like the bumpers they would sell wellaposed to what we have now..i have voted.

EJ Ward told me two years ago at Stoneleigh that they were speaking to the chap (in Korea) who makes their s/steel bumpers. They reckoned then that chrome-plated, cast brass was an option. What came of that?

Mine, like many, is quite bad and I'm actually having it replated right now so I do have some interest in this subject.

However, wouldn't it be FAR more useful if SOCTFL concentrated on items that were VITAL to keeping our cars on the road rather than things like air intake grilles which are, primarily, of cosmetic interest only??

I don't want to be critical but there must be many, many things that are far more important than just an intake grille.

Personally I would not spendallot of money on one of these as they can be re chromed , but it dose cost !

Just seen this and have to say that I am entirely with Julian but pleased that members views are being sought - shame there wasn't a "I don't think this should be done" option!

I wouldn't think many of our cars lack these and even doggy ones can be re-plated pretty easily and cheaply.

My view therefore is that this would be a total waste of funds and I can think of a number of other items I would prefer to see made available - perhaps we should have a poll to see which parts a majority feel are most needed and unavailable at a fair price?

I took a file to the grills before getting it re-plated. The problem is that the grills cannot be polished, result=perfect.
I thought they were proposed being made of chromed plastic:shock::X

This is quite an important item, as anyone with a scruffy one will tell you, agreed, there are other things that need to be done, but this project is under way, let's support it !
The big prob is that they're made of Mazak, the only successful way to repair them is to de-chrome, polish off the copper, clean out the pits and fill with conductive solder, then re-plate, simply re-plating is an expensive waste of time !
I've spent time and money trying to repair this evil stuff, and it's VERY difficult. All in favour of a replacement says I. Martin.

I agree with most of the comments here, stuff that's purely decorative should not be on the spend list until we have solid supplies of everything functional. Ifan individualwants concours then he can spend his money on a solution.
