MK1 US spec high back seats

I've got a '72 MK1 and have seen pictures of the US spec MK1 with the high back seats with integral head rests.

I like the look of these and was contemplating a change when budget allows.

I can see that Rimmers sell the US spec high back trim and foam, but I can't figure out if you need to change the seat frame. Rimmers only list a single frame for all MK1s, but how is the head rest supported, is the foam and trim enough on it's own or do the US models have a differentseat frame backrest?

Has anyone made the change or can offer any advice.

The US headrest is a straight swap for the rectangular cushion at the top of the seat.

All you have to do is remove the cover from the back of the seat and you can then access the four screws thatsecure the cushion in place.

Definitely worth doing if you can get hold of the headrests. I ended up buying the covers from Rimmers and making the frame and foams myself. Blocks out the interior lights on the b posts though.

I concur with Peter's reply. They are an easy fit requiring nothing more than a Phillips screwdriver and about 10 minutes per seat. Getting hold of them is the hard part. I put a 'wanted' advert on triumphstag.net and got a response from a guy in Canada of all places (Stags were not exported to Canada but a few have migrated North from the USA). I got him to send me pictures and we negotiated a sale. They bolted straight in and match the patina of the original seats precisely.

Best 'upgrade' I have made to my Stag. Makes me feel much more secure having the headrests there as I am 6'1" and always felt vulnerable to whiplash in the event of a shunt from behind.

Cheers Pete & Dave for the advice, I never realised the roll top of the mk1 seat was separate.

I'm starting the hunt, so if anyone knows of a pair of mk1 head rests in black let me know.
