what year did hazard lights become mandatory?

Hi All

What year did it become mandatory for a car to have "hazard lights" fitted?

The reason I ask is that I have booked my resto in for its MOT next Friday:shock: and I have mislaid the Hazard light switch:XI know its in the house somewhere but god knows where exactly:??

So, I am wondering if I turn up and present my Mark 2 without the hazard light switch fitted will it automatically fail? Its got a Mark 1 dash fitted so there is no obvious gaping hole in the dash.

When I finally find the switch it will be mounted on an extra panel located by the steering column along with the engine electric fan and rear fog light switches.

I believe hazard lights became mandatory on 1st April 1986. However, if cars had them fitted before that date, they must work at MOT time.

Perhaps you could fudge it so it doesn't look like it had them. Will the examiner know?

If it doesn't have the switch they won't test it - i think you'll be fine

The hazards arent working on my stag and it just passed an MOT with Carlow Engineering - think i will give them a call as the reverse lights arent working either
