Pertronics

Hi

i am trying to fit my Pertronics ignition kit LU-187, which I believe is the right kit for a UK Stag. I just cant see how the base plate fits. Has anyone fitted one and is there any advice please. For some reason, they have provided me with 2 plates but there is very little instruction as to what to do. They just seem to bleat on about how you don't have to modify anything, juts fit it

Any advice much appreciated

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew, admittedly these pictures are from fitting an LU143 to a Herald 25D distributer but i suspect the method is the same:

First with points condensor removed

(P.S. - how do you add multiple images to a single post ?)

Andrew

This is the LU-186 fitted to mine. You should only need to use the base plate with the unit fitted to it. The screw holes should line up quite obviously when you've got it in the right place.

and another view....

You need to manually insert the bulletin codes yourself. For an image it's...
- you can keep adding them one after the other. Same goes for links, the code being

Easy when you know how

You say LU-186, mine is a LU-187 and looking at your image, does the plate say LU-187?

My Stag isa MK2, but it had singlepoints fitted and on the side, it has an external timing adjuster, has yours Bill

Whoops.. meant to say LU-187! Mine was a dual point system without the external adjuster - not sure if that makes a difference. Is there a number on your distributor, something like 35D8 41553D? I've also fitted an Ignitor to my TR6 and that came with 2 base plates, but only needed the one.
On your picture, have you still got the old base plate from the points fitted - can I see the post that the points fit on? If so, that needs to come off.

If it's a single point distributor then it'sa very early distributor. Nearly allwere dual point. The base plate will also bedifferent between the versions. Perhaps your kit is for a dual point distributor?

Here's a dual point pic for comparision:

You might be able to see if your base plate lines up

Thanks Bill fpryour comment about the spare plate they sent you.

Thanks Nick for the good image. I am not in the garage now, so not sure on then umber reference, but it is the single point distributor on the left hand sideon page 63 in the Haynes book.

The base plate look very different.

Not sure what to do now.

Are the base plate interchangable, if so, I could get a second hand one and fit that instead.

Cheers

I've had look in the ROM and as Nick rightly points out you've got the early version with external adjuster intended for adjusting the single points using dwell setting. The moving plate that provides for the external adjustment means your base plate is different to the dual point version.
Distributor type by engine number should be:
to eng # LF20250 - Lucas 16C6 (part no 45232)
eng # LF20251 - LF 28553 - Lucas 15P6 (part no 45243)
eng # LF28554 onwards - Lucas 15C6 (part no 45266)

Assuming yours is the earlier type (16C6) it's likely that the LU-185 or LU-183 would be the correct one. If you contact Carl at retrorockets@snet.net he's very helpful and will be able to advise you.
