Main beam telltale light on dash - MOT failure?

Hi All

Whilst doing the final jobs on the resto in preparation for its MOT on Friday I noticed that the main beam warning light on the dash was not working:X. Checked all the connections and eventually determined that its a probelm with the round multi pin connector on the rear of the light cluster.

So my question is: "is a headlight main beam warning light a mandatory requirement for the MOT?"

If it is, I will have to delay the MOT until I can obtain a replacement connector.

I wouldn't think that would be included in an MOT

Hi Bruce,

Afraid to say Yes, same as fog lights must have a warning light etc.

If your lucky one time my stag lights needed adjustment at the MOT station they gave me a screwdriver and let me use their machine to align the lights correctly

Hi Bruce,

They are not mandatory on cars - there are lots of older cars that do not have a main beam warning light but i suspect it falls in the catagory of "if fitted must be working."

I suspect the tester won't even notice, if its anything like mine you can't see it in daylight anyway.

If it helps I have a secondhand connector which I can cut off of the loom - the only snag is I know a couple of wires have already been cut quite short - don't know which ones though. If you're interested PM me your address and i'll drop it in the post tomorrow - you should get it by tuesday.

Hi All

The main beam warning light is now working well after fitment of the replacement clusterconnector that Roger kindly sent me.

I am now an expert at exchanging the light cluster, wiring and connector etc without the need for removing the dashboard. Lying in the footwell with my head by the pedals and hands up in amongst the wires worked okay once I removed the air vent pipe to create extra space. Bit uncomfortable though:?, especially when the dog came and sat on my stomach
