    Front panel top chrome trim

Putting my car back together at the weekend following its repaint andI want to replace the chrome strip that runs along the top edge of the front panel as the one Ive got has a small dent in it.

    Two questions:-

Can the trim be fitted upside down? if it can the dent will not be seen.

If not wheres the best place to get one from, bought a rear horse shoe trim from local Stag supplier (see my location) and it now looks brassy so dont want to buy one from them.

    Hi Dave,

I recall correctly they only fit one way when I put mine back after painting, I bought a bottom replacement one from JP and it seem OK.

I would suggest you offer it up few times though without the clips in it to make sure your happy with the fit, if you have to take it off again theywill remove your nice new paint!

High Dave, I believe Wards sell them, Milothedog is right, they only fit properly one way. Quick tip, after you've fitted the new clips into the trim, fill the whole thing with Waxoyl or similar, VERY messy but essential, those clips are cruel. Martin.

Thanks for the replies guys, yea those clips are nasty, I will treat with waxoyl before I fit the trim.

Just had a call from the body shop, hardtop that I bought last year for £100 is not as good as it looked, he informs me that the front edge is mainly filler and other areas are not too good, not surprised really but it looked good to be honest, just shows you dont know whats hidden under paint. Works stopped on the hard top until Ive been and had a look as it sounds like its going to be expensive.

Hi Stewart, on principal I agree with you, but using strong adhesives means that if you need to remove the trim in future, you'll damage / destroy it. Tiger seal is perfect but it's a once only treatment. Martin.
