    SAVE THE VULCAN

No point in explaining in detail what this is all about, as I am sure that anyone willing to donate will know what a Vulcan is and will want to see it continue to fly rather than become a museum exhibit (or worse!)

Donation is dead easy - works with PayPal for example.

What a waste of money. (only joking) To find out how to do it on the cheap go to http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1211925/Hero-pilot-averted-air-disaster-pilot-hit-throttle-giant-bomber-mistake.html
I was a Handley Page Victor K2 Crew Chief but sadly my aircraft XH671 ended its days in a Canadian scrapyard.

I am a little puzzled...... why if this was just a fast taxi run were the flaps set for take-off? I know the the old girl would have been very light, with an absolute minimum fuel load but she hopped off the runway like she had been rotated on purpose.....

Am I the only one that thinks it may have been deliberate, or at least the result of over-enthusiasm by the man in the left seat - I would have been tempted to make a quick hop, but methinks this was a hop that got a bit out of hand.... a shame maybe that he didn't run out of available tarmac and do a full circuit before landing - that may have stirred people into getting a Victor officially airborne again like our dear old Tin Triangle..

        Happy days

        Great to watch though

Hi Kryten, the flaps position has been mentioned before was that fortuitous or what? Lots of publicity for the pilot but I would LUV to know who was on the throttles. Come on guys I know that there are some Victor aircrew out there who was it?

As a pilot, I'm with you Russ. There's abig difference in throttle position between fast taxi and rotation speed and you don't get that mixed up. I would go for enthusiasm though. I reckon he wanted the nosewheel off the ground along the runway and got it wrong. He would never risk his licence for a circuit.

But if I read the Mail article correctly, his licence had lapsed so you can't have something taken away that you don't have...... he may have had a whole world of pain from the CAA (Campaign Against Aviation ) though.......

Also, if I remember right, display jocks usually lift the nosewheel after or at the point of cutting the power so they can use the drag to slow down a bit - they certainly used to do that with XL426 at Southend - a delta wing makes a bloody good airbrake....

I think the Vulcan is a fabulous aircraft and I hope it can return to the skies again and again (intentionally ), BUT if it's the same people behind it today who were behind it several years ago then I have my doubts.

I was involved with the launch of a new car and we'd hired Bruntingthorpe for a week andwhen we went to check out the placewe discovered the Vulcan there.

Immediately we decided that it had to play a part in our presentation andI ended up descending from the bomb bay doors (Top Gun style :shock to make a presentation to the assembled audience.

During my presentation I was due tomake afew light hearted comments such as 'Although our new car can't quite match the Vulcan fortop speed, it has got it beaten in the fuel economy stakes'.

The representatives of the VTS (Vulcan To the Skies)programme jumped up and demanded that we withdrew any 'critical' comments about their plane ! Surely even the most stupid individual would realise that a Vulcan bomber might use a little bit more fuel than a car? - from then onwards they vetoed almost every single reference we made to the plane.

I can't hope to fully illustrate how frustrating and annoying they became in this post, but you would have thought that they could have been a bit more helpful especially bearing in mind the fact that we were making a sizeable financial contribution to VTS.

If they've been similarlynarrow minded and obstructive in other areas I'm not surprised that they've found it so difficult to raise sufficient funding and I can't help but think that with the right approach, this magnificient project could have been far better supported.

I hope the project is very successful but I also hope that the people behind it are more enlightened and helpful than they were back then.

                  Cheers

                  Julian
