    Is my Speedo original?

I have recently changed the voltage regulator for a solid state one, whilst consulting the workshop manual on placing the dashboard in the 'Service' position, it stated that the speedo cable and trip meter cables should be disconnected. My speedo has an integral button on the bottom quadrant of the speedo itself and does not have the cable type under the dashboard. I know from the past history that this speedo has been in the car for at least the last 10 years, but the Rimmers catalogue only shows the other type.

It is a Smiths speedo and matches the Tachometer perfectly (also Smiths), as the car was built in the last months of production is it possible the specification changed? I have no reason the doubt the odometer reading of 95k, but it does 'under read' by 5mph - I am running 185hr14 Nanking tyres.

    Steve,

If you look again at the Rimmer Bros catalogue, you will see that Mk1 (speedo part number 215185) and early Mk2 Stags (speedo part number 218807)had a trip meter reset by cable. The later ones (from LD35941) had a push-button trip reset (speedo part number TKC2125).

Ever felt stupid? - should have read the text, not just looked at the pictures! - My defence is that my workshop manual only refers to the MK1 type although it clearly states it refers to all models up to 1977 - thanks
