It was bought by a guy in Northern Ireland who rebuilt it, so it still lives. It was a bit of a wrench watching it loaded up onto a transporter and drive off after over 18 years in my ownership, but I couldn't face rebuilding it again.

I too have American cruise lights on my white Stag. I really like them, plus anything that makes the car stand out more at night so the locals don't run into it is an added bonus.
Most modern cars now have rear lights that wrap round the side too, so must be legal. Look at a Volvo or a Nissan or a whole host of others and their "rear" lights are visible from both the back and the side.
Fitting these marker lights won't affect the MOT. The only problem is how to wire up the front ones if you have them. You can either wire them in place of the existing indicators and use them as replacements, or wire them as marker lights but do this and you may fall foul of the requirement for indicators to be visible from the side. Not sure when that became a legal requirement.
A third option, the one I followed, was to wire the front marker lights in series between the front sidelight and the indicator, ignoring the earth. This meant that, by day the front marker flashed as an indicator. At night it light up when the sidelights were switched on. But when indicating at night, it flashed in opposition to its neighbouring indicator. This caused raised eyebrows at MOT time, but didn't result in a fail.
When I sold the (damaged) white Stag I removed the american lights, but couldn't be bothered to fit them to the Carmine Stag, so sold them through this forum.
