    Hi Dave

If there is no door handle fitted and I take it the inner door card is fitted? You should be able to get a length of coat hanger through the door handle aperture and pull up the lever on the inside of the door lock like the handle would do.

Just a thought, I had a similar panic. Until I realised that with my fumbling for the right lever to latch I'd flipped the locking mechanism! It's a job for a gynaecologist!

          thanks john

its not locked, if i have to brake the inner catch to get door open whats the best way

(screw driver inside door frameand lever up untill some thing brakes)

          any other ideas

Here's a view of the internal lock mechanism, unfortunately with the handle linkage in place. I can't advise what to do next but forcing something seems a bit drastic. Perhaps the photo will show you something that's been missed, I hope so. If it wasn't an effort to close the door it would seem that the mechanism operated correctly, it's just sod law that once latched something has gone awry, that just needs a little more investigation as to what has gone wrong. Be patient, then beat the crap out of it!

Just in case: I know you have said your car is a Mk2 but what year is it.Stuart and others have sent you instructions etc about dealing with a Mk2 lock. The Mk 1 type lock was fitted up to end of 1974 and is quite different .

Don't forget you can always take the handle off the other side to compare/contrast.

                      Hi John4D,

Excellent photo. Looks like a Mark ! than a mark2 version. I replaced the outer chrome part of driver's handle this summer. Had to remove the lock fully and reconnect all three remote and handle links (with fold over tabs in position) before re-tightening lock itself. Interior door card has to be removed.
                      Pig of a job.
