Hi all, I want to replace my oil pump this week. Am I right in thinking that Hobourn-Eaton pumps are not still available. Most suppliers seem to sell County pumps at around £50.00 . I have read that the relief valve spring sould be replaced with the original due to higher pressure, is this correct ? LD Parts website implies that the higher pressure will do no harm ! Whats your thoughts ?

Jury is still out, but in my opinion (many years in the trade) the County pump is set for Saab use and pressure is too high for ours due to the way the timing chain tensioners work. I always change the springs.

Bearing in mind your experience, can I ask your opinion on another oil pump related matter?
I've got a good second hand Hoburn Eaton pump. I've thoroughly cleaned it andI've yet to check out clearances etc with a feeler gauge but it looks like there is very little wear on any of it.
Would I be best off using this, with new O rings, or buying a new County pump and changing the spring?
My temptation is to use the one I've got - they were the official original ones after all, but I'd welcome any thoughts.
Cheers
Julian

Hi Russ, thanks for the reply. I've ordered a County pump from Paddocks this morning. Talking to the salesperson he seems to think that most people want higher oil pressure !
I think I'll take your advice and use the original spring. Is it the "relief valve spring" that I replace ?
Thanks again..........ace

Hi ALL
Picked up another Stag and the PO said he fitted an uprated pump, the pressure is I think far to high 70+, I have not had it on the road yet as it needs some work done to it.
Question is where can I get the right spring without having to buy another pump

I had the exact same problem and was lucky that DJT gave me a spare one he had.
This must be something that the tool fund could (should?) take on.
I don't imaging it would be that expensive to send an original spring to a manufacturer and have them copy the measurements and supply correctly calibrated.
