    Royal Mail; bad service

I am getting 1st Class mail packagesin 5 to 6 days lately. When I speak to the postmen, they all say that they are in a mess, and have a huge backlog or parcels to deliver; reason, lack of staff they say.

Surely someone can do something about improving it. Maybe it is just in my area?

1st class no longer exists, it's really been superceded by standard parcels. Not worth the money any more.

They have lost one of my packages and I now have to go through hoops to getmy moneyback.

I've sent off about a dozen or so parcels to fellow owners in the last couple of months and, of those, a cam cover to simonas took over 3 weeks and a roof bar to biglad never arrived.

After a complaint to the PO, they sent me a book of 6 stamps as compensation :X:X- needless to say, I'm fighting them.

      Cheers

It sounds like Christmas cards had better be sent early then! (Mind you I normally send them so late they arrive after Christmas anyway .

Have to agree here. 1st class used to be a good service pretty much next day to and from everywhere for me. Now parcels and letters are taking anything up to a week to reach me and also the ones I send out are taking as long. Not sure what can be done about it other than everyone writing to both the Post Office and their MPs to get it on the "agenda" Also the "daily" delivery is pretty random arrives at any time from 9:00am right throughto 3 or 4 in the afternoon - often with other peoples mail in it.

I must say, I've not had problems with small packages or letters, just bigger parcels.

Maybe that's the excuse you need just to send Christmas cards and not presents this year - or you could claim to have sent a present which didn't arrive

            Cheers

Ps Have to say that almost every delivery from LDparts arrives the next day - Peter must have a hotline to the boss of the PO

They closed the sorting offce in Crewe a few weeks ago. Our mail is now sorted in Warrington. They have also combined delivery rounds and reduced the number of posties as well as getting rid of all their bikes. This means that we are no longer guaranteed to actually receive a daily delivery! If the postie runs out of time he goes home and then restarts the next day at the point where he finished the day before. Last week we had no delivery on two seperate days. But then mail arrived on a Sunday afternoon as they tried to catch up.

                Madness.:X

What's the difference between 1st Class and 2nd Class?

1st Class letters are put in a sack and delivered later.

2nd Class letters are put in a sack.

Yep - it certainly isn't what it used to be (a bit like most of us!)

I try and opt for recorded/signed-for delivery on anything that i'd be concerned about losing

We use a franking machine to send work packs all over the country and have very few take more than a day. Most of the packs weigh between 1 and 2 kg, and are large letter or small packet.

Maybe because they pass through the sorting office in a different way being metered and an account they get some priority.

As you can guess, I post everything this way

postwatch say that royal mail cannot fail a delivery, that means that a manager cannot tell a postman not to take out a delivery regardless to how short staffed they are what the managers are tolled is if they don't have the staff to deliver the mail they must deliver it them selves .However the packet man , these are the guys that deliver packets that weight approx 3kl and over ,cover not one delivery but about 10 (ratio of letters to packets ) so if we are short staffed all the manager has to do is stop packet delivery and send the packet men out on a delivery ,so on paper no delivery has failed just a few items on each delivery didn't go and the manager stays indoors with his coffee and biscuits

The answer sell it off and let someone have a go they couldn't do any worst

My local post manager tells me there was a lot of staff off sick; now OK. Certainly letters are getting through quickly at the moment. Will see how it goes with the parcels.
