    Kenlowe

    Hello all

I haven't been on here for a while as I had to rejoin the club to get full access
Anyway that's done now and I was looking for some advice on which Kenlowe to go for as the stag gets a bit hot in traffic and is running a bit hot imo as well (the needle is sitting between the E and M and creeps up near the M quite a bit )

Is it best to go for a 13 or 14 inch fan and will I need a blower or sucker as I intend on keeping the viscous fan on the car .

    Cheers D

Darren. I have a 16" kenlowe blower fitted. Using a rovotec switch in the top hose.

    VC removed.

Darren, I have a 16' 2 speed Kenlowe with its own adjustable control and the probe installed into a special fitting in the l/hand radiator tank. The VC also removed

if your temp shows E to M ,assuming M stands for middle ,your car is not running hot !! reguards Graham

          Hi Darren,

Kenlowe themselves recommend their 14" HD 2-speed. I have one but as I have a good VC fitted, it hardly ever comes on. Twice last year when stuck in traffic after a run, but only for a minute or two.

I think i might just be a bit paranoid then as I have had a new vicous coupling fitted and the needle on the temp gauge sits between the E and M of the word temp.
It dosent like traffic though as the needle slowly creeps up if you get stuck for a while!!

I also left if running on the drive from cold o. Sunday and it was up to temp in 10-15 mins and was getting hotter as I left it there just ticking over
Would a kenlow make it run cooler or is it running at the right temp now ???

Cheers for the comments from yet another paranoid stag owner

Getting up to temp quickly is good; shows the thermostat is working properly. Will reduce engine wear and fuel consumption.

IMO Kenlowes are there either to provide extra cooling on a hot day, in traffic or whenthe engine is underexcessive load (towing, alpine trips etc). If you wantto fit one because you think it is running too hot, it is only masking a problem that needs looking into.

              A couple of suggestions:

              1. Make sure it is really getting hot, and the temp gauge is reading correctly. Use an accurate 'thermometer' to test, or try replacing the sender/gauge.

              2. If it is running too hot, get the rad tested and/or replace. Rads can silt up quickly if cooling system is not properly maintained. Feel the bottom of the rad when engine is fully hot; is the rad cool the bottom (silted up).

I think that we may be going the other way with engine temp. Our engines need to run at optimum, not too cool which is detrimental to the engine. I don't know what the optimum is for a stag, but between E and M sounds fine to me!

                Just my 2 pence worth

Hiya, how's "the knowledge" going ?
You want a 16" blower Pacet fan and an adjustable controller in the top hose or the rad. Very efficient, mine's been in for six years with no issues, and a better price than the Kenlowe.
Have a look at "Stafford Vehicle Components" website, a great deal of detail, CFM etc. Welcome back ! Martin.

                        Knowledge is going good thanks

I think I might be just a but paranoid - as I am used to my other cars running a lot cooler than the stag does
I have had a fair bit of work done on it at Carlow Engineering which included a full flush of the cooling system and a new vicous - Tony and Gordon both said just use it more and enjoy it so I think I will run it about a bit more and see how I go
Martin thanks fir the the info on the pact fan

Hi Darren and welcome back from me as well

I know what you mean about using another car - I was usingmy son's 350Z yesterday and as I turned into our drive I noticed his oil pressure at nearly 4 bar - on my Stag I'm lucky if it's 0.4 bar there :shock:

                          Cheers

That's about 58psi, i'd worry if it was a Stag. Yours is about 7psi, is that right ? Martin.

                              Hi Martin,

I'm afraid that my oil pressure canactually drop lower than 7psi,although only at tickover and after a hard run - andfor someobscure reason, especially whenpointing downhill :? (Yes, my oil level is ok).

That's why I was looking to buy that new crankshaft I mentioned on another thread and crank inspection / removal is next on my list of jobs.

                              Cheers
