He used to have a Ford dealership in Narborough, Leicester, and in '73 I tried to buy a new Escort, he may have been the definitive rally driver but a more tight fisted miserable sod you never did meet, I walked off in disgust, bought a Fiat instead. :P Martin.

I always found him to be friendly when I competed against him in rallying in the late 60's and early 70's

He always flashed his lights and waved as he passed me ( or was that a fist)

It was a long time ago

Hi Roger, I expect he liked other drivers, but I don't think he liked people much. It hasn't diminished my admiration for his achievements, but you know what they say about getting too close to your hero's.

Chris Munton does drive his rally Stag just like that.

on a similar subject, how can it be that a mint RS2000 can be £15K upwards and yet a 'mint' Dolomite sprint can be had for approx £6K, i know that it does not have the sporting success of the Ford but still seriously under valued, or is it the ford is over valued.

Ihad the chance of a straight swap with a Main Ford dealer on my Capri 2.8i special 1984 against a same condition 1980 RS2000 custom, oh how i wish i had done that deal.

Is there any footage of Chris Munton anywhere? How about letting him loose in your Stag at Brands next year Tony?

I won an auction for a ride up the hill at the Prescott National, I couldn't stop grinning for 2 days - and a nice bloke to boot. Martin.
