For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than to Google it for themselves.

    The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

That's what I do mine too and have had no problems (I have Steel Nut's:shock It may be worth looking at the stud's though, I have changed most of mine as they were streched, I assume by PO's.

If your wheel nuts are alloy, replace them with steel ones; I have seen so many cars with partially stripped alloy wheel nuts!

Mine don't get anywhere near 100lbs- probably 60-70lbs. They are only as strong as the weakest point, in the Stags case 6 x 5/16 unf studds in a corroded ali frame tightened to 16lbs holding the hub on.

I tried to go for 100lbf, but after three studs snapped, now go for 80/90 or so.

If you go less than the book says, check regularly until you are satisfied that they aren't going to work loose!

I've been using these figures for over 20 years without a problem - on Mk1 Steels, Mk2 Alloys and Minilight replica wheels.

Don't forget, you may need to change a wheel at the roadside. Can you undo 100lbs/ft with a wheelbrace? :?

As Chris says, make sure you don't have aluminium wheel nuts, 'cos they will strip for sure.
