    New crankshaft

Was it anyone on here who bought the brand new crank yesterday that was on ebay?:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...OIBUAA:GB:1123

(scroll down the listing to see the details at the bottom)

If you click on the bidding, you'll see I was trying for it and had it until 52 secs before the end, (yeah, I know that often happens)but it looks like maybe it was a professional trader got it ? They've done 1485 transactions and most are vehicles andcar accessories etc.

Ah well, guess I'll go for a Paddocks regound and tuftrided one.

    Cheers

I was keeping an eye on that one. Someone got a bargain. It sold for less than an exchange one from RB's - without the surcharge! I was tempted and had a couple of bids, but at the low end! I have a crank on original size bearings in my engine anyway . (RB's not singled out - just happened to be the one I checked for a price comparison).

    Rgds

      Hi Dave

I see Paddocks list regroundcranks, complete with bearings,at £240 so, although I quite fancied the idea of a brand new one, I wasn't too disappointed.

Anyway, sod's law would have said the the new one might not have been properly surface treated and I'm not sure that Triumph would honour a warranty claim - even if it was a manufacturing fault

      Cheers

I was watching this as as well; along with the new camshafts the seller also had up for auction. I'd have liked the crank to go with my OEM bearings but having just taxed/insured/mot'd the Stag it's had enough spend on it this month.
£250 seems quite cheap to me; if it's gone to a trader probably be for resale for three times the price

It can't have done - it wasn't a Left Hand Drive crank LOL, only kidding !

Yeah, I know how you feel, although in this case, with Paddocks' crank and bearings together costing less, I'm not too worried.

In fact, I was bidding 'just in case' as I don't even know for sure that I'm going to need a crank :?

As it was, Iwasaway from home and bidding on my phone and getting a bit carried away. In the cold light of day this morning I'm quite relieved.

                  Cheers

I wonder if the buyer realizes he'll have to get it hardened ? There's no way to tell if it was a faulty one, suddenly it doesn't look quite so cheap. Martin.

                      Hi Martin,

I'd wondered about that too - hence my, only slightly tongue in cheek, comment of "Anyway, sod's law would have said the the new one might not have been properly surface treated and I'm not sure that Triumph would honour a warranty claim - even if it was a manufacturing fault "

                      Cheers

If you go to Paddocks BE VERY careful to measure what they send back.I did the same as you intend and got a crank which turned out to be at the very very end of it's re grind life ,in fact many have said they would not have fitted it..I did, as I stupidly trusted a company which claims to specialise in Stags.Of course once I had fitted it I could not send it back for a better one.

The shells which came with it were not thesize to fit the crank but20, thou apart. You can imagine the noise it made when I started it up ! I had to re- build the whole engine again. When I spoke to Paddocks they were really rude, confrontational and basically didn't want to know. One of their staff said cranks could be ground out to -70 ! after I said mine measured -50

I eventually went to a local engineering firm in Totnes ,Devon called Lemar engineering. They could not have been more helpful and accommodating (They did the measuring for me and made shells to fit)

Personally I wouldn't touch Paddocksthem with two barge poles tied together ! I.M.H.O. & experience :X

You'll have to do something about that Avatar Phil, Basil's car was red. Martin.

I'm not called Phil and the car is red.... well off red when viewed in the bright Torquay sunshine....it wasn't filmed in Torquay either. But that's enough splitting Hairs or rabbits.
