Nothing to do with Stags - IT

Has anyone got an XP Home legit installation disk that they can either lend me or sell me? My intention is to reinstall and then use my product key code that I own so its all above board. I have been told that the XP installation disks are all the same and they can be activated by a legit code. Please correct me if Ihave been misinformed.

Any help much appreciated as my daughters machine is too old to run Windows 7

    Thanks again

    Hi Andrew,

We have the ISO files to create legitimate discs. What you need is an xp home OEM disc. This can then be activated quite legally using the code on your Certficate of Authenticity (or COA) label. The COA label is found on the underside of laptops or stuck somewhere on the case of desktop machines.

Where in Essex are you (PM me if you prefer)?

What manufacturer is the machine Andrew? Some machines have recovery partitions. It is worth backing up all your data, favourites, email files, music and exportable settings to a USB drive of some description and pressing what ever button boots the machine and see if you have a restore setting. You will have to spend a day or two patching it all, once done though as there have been one or two up-dates since XP hit the streets - I still use it though!

its a self build and Andrew has lost the disc he used to install it from. I posted him new one today having met up with him at the weekend and given him the wrong one by mistake.

Thanks Graham, yes, certainly backed up as much as possible when it crashed using Commander and although about 8 years old, it worked a treat. Put it onto a USB stick so I wouldnt get any virus spreading between PC's. I have no idea what the problem was with the PC, but a reinstall worked.

Thanks Ian forall your help and good to see the Stag andnice welding. I know whereto come one day. Don't move house

          Thanks guys

Glad you got it working Andrew Not sure what comander is but freeavg is proving to be a bit of a pain on my pc since it up-graded itself to the 2011 version.

Tucows.com has some good free and shareware for troubleshooting annoying pc problems. I blame e the kids, they have even managed to get my Mac running slow, which is supposed to be impossible...

Spot on, kids. They seem to find these games that grind a PC to halt.

Commander is a file recovery CD that you put in and change the boot up start to CD and it runs a version of windows and allows you to see your files. Very limited. You need to put in a USB stick first as it wont letter anything else in after firing up.

If a PC doesn't boot on this software, then you know straight away that its a hardware problem.

I have just removed AVG latest version is it will not run with Norton 2011 or even 2010. When you install Norton, you have to remove AVG as per the error message and when I tried to reinstallAVG after Norton, i had the same message. Not sure if this helps you with your current problem, hop so.
